June Prayer:

For someone who can just give you the kinda peace of mind and love you need.
No games. No anxiety. Just calm, consistency, and “I got you.”
May this be the month it finds you. 🤍

June we’re done begging for the bare minimum.
This month we’re asking for someone who can just give peace, the safe kind. The certain kind.
We’re not settling. ✨

The weight of being taken for granted.

Final episode: *Accidentally*

It was raining in Bonaberi. The kind of rain that turns the road into a river and makes everyone run for cover.

Jane ducked under the awning of a pharmacy, shaking water off her jacket.

And there he was.

Mike, holding a plastic bag, two coffees on the other hand, hair damp but calm. He hadn’t seen her yet.

She almost turned and walked away. Old habit. But something stopped her.

“Mike,” she said.

He looked up. For half a second, nothing changed on his face. Then he smiled. Not the old, desperate smile. A real one.

“Jane,” he said. “You’re soaked.”

She laughed, awkward. “So are you.”

They stood there in silence for a bit, watching the rain hit the gutter. It felt like the first honest conversation they’d had in years.

“How’s life?” she asked. Her voice was careful, like she was afraid of breaking it.

“Good,” he said. “Quiet. I sleep through the night now.”

That hit her harder than she expected.

“I’m sorry,” she said. It came out before she could stop it. “For everything. For not seeing you.”

Mike nodded, like he’d been waiting to hear it, but didn’t need it anymore.
“Thanks for saying it,” he said. “Really.”

Then he held out one of the coffees.
“Still take it black, no sugar?”

Jane’s eyes stung.
“I drink tea now,” she said softly.

He smiled, put the coffee back in the bag.
“Change suits you.”

The rain eased up. He stepped out first.
“Take care, Jane.”

“You too, Mike.”

She watched him walk away, and for the first time, she didn’t chase.

Some endings are quiet. And that’s enough.

The end.

Hope you enjoyed the story.
we'll be bringing more of this. 🤗

The weight of being taken for granted.

Chapter 2: *Jane, one year later*

I still keep his spare shirt.
It’s in the back of my closet, folded wrong, the collar a little stretched from where I used to grab it when I was mad.

I told myself I was fine without him.
I said he was too soft, too much. That no one could keep up with me anyway.

But silence is loud when you’re used to someone filling it.

The first month after he left, I blamed him. Said he gave up too easy.
The second month, I started noticing small things. No one left me coffee on the counter. No one noticed when I didn’t sleep.

By month six, I understood what he meant by “placeholder.”
I never asked him how his day was. I never said his name like it mattered. I took his effort and called it normal.

Last week I ran into his friend at the market. He told me Mike’s doing well. New job, new place, laughing again.

I wanted to ask if he ever mentions me.
I didn’t.

Some doors don’t open twice. I used to think love was about being chased.
Now I know it’s about seeing the person who’s already stayed.

I’m not mad at him anymore.
I’m just mad I was too late to be good enough for him.

To be continued.......

The weight of being taken for granted.

Chapter 1: Undeserving

Mike loved Jane in the way people love air—quietly, constantly, like it was the only thing keeping him alive.

He woke up early to walk her to work when her car broke down. He remembered her coffee order after one mention. When she cried about her job, he sat on the floor beside her bed for hours without saying much, just holding her hand.

Jane said “thanks,” but her voice was flat. Nothing was ever enough.

The dinner he cooked for her birthday? “Too salty.”
The surprise trip he saved six months for? “It’s just Yaounde. I’ve been there.”
The day he quit his second job because she said she missed him? “Now we can’t pay rent. Great.”

Mike swallowed it. He told himself love meant patience. That one day she’d see him, really see him.

She didn’t.

One night she came home late, ignored his “how was your day,” and complained that the house was cold. Mike had fixed the AC that afternoon. He’d stayed up with it for three hours.

He looked at her, really looked. She wasn’t angry. She was just empty. And he was tired of pouring love into a cup with no bottom.

“I’m done,” he said. Not shouting. Just tired.
“Done with what?” she asked, scrolling her phone.
“With being your placeholder.”

He packed one bag that night. Left the keys on the table.

Jane called him two weeks later to ask where his spare shirt was. She hadn’t noticed he was gone.

It took her six months to understand. By then, Mike had moved, changed his number, and started smiling again.

Some people don’t know what they had until they’re the one left holding nothing.

Jane learned that the hard way. And Mike learned he was never undeserving of love. He was just giving it to the wrong person.

Stay tuned for chapter 2
