*International Mother Language Day 2026: Celebrating Linguistic Diversity! 🌍*

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is celebrated annually on February 21st to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, and multilingualism. This year's theme is "Youth Voices on Multilingual Education".

*History and Significance*

IMLD commemorates students who sacrificed their lives in 1952 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, fighting for the right to use their mother tongue, Bengali. In 1999, UNESCO proclaimed February 21st International Mother Language Day.

*2026 Theme: Youth Voices on Multilingual Education*

This year's theme highlights the role of youth in promoting multilingual education and preserving linguistic diversity. Young people are custodians of linguistic heritage, and their participation is crucial for building inclusive societies.

*Key Aspects*

- IMLD promotes linguistic diversity, multilingual education, and preservation of endangered languages.
- Over 8,300 languages exist worldwide, but 40% of the population lacks access to education in a language they understand.
- Mother tongue education enhances understanding, strengthens cultural identity, and fosters social cohesion.

*Celebration and Action*

- Participate in local events promoting linguistic diversity.
- Learn and use your mother tongue.
- Support initiatives promoting multilingual education and preserving endangered languages.

IMLD is an opportunity to celebrate our world's linguistic and cultural richness. Together, let's promote diversity and inclusion!

*Make the world 🌍 better by....*

1. If you have more than you need, build a bigger table—not a higher fence.
2. If you rise before others, light the path—not close the gate.
3. If you have knowledge, teach others—not boast about it.
4. If you're strong, protect the weak—not oppress them.
5. If you’re blessed, become a blessing—not a bragger.
6. If you’re healed, help others heal—not remind them of their pain.
7. If you’re ahead, reach back—not look down.
8. If you’ve eaten, share your food—not waste it.
9. If you’re peaceful, spread calm—not stir chaos.
10. If you’ve succeeded, create opportunities—not envy.
11. If you’re happy, make others smile—not mock their sadness.
12. If you know better, guide gently—not judge harshly.
13. If you’re loved, give love—not hate or pride.
14. If you have time, spend it meaningfully—not carelessly.
15. If you’ve found your way, show the map—not the distance.
16. If you're free, fight for the freedom of others—Hnot ignore their chains.
17. If you're favoured, don’t forget the less privileged—not just celebrate alone.
18. If you're full, feed someone hungry—not walk past.
19. If you have space, welcome someone in—not shut your doors.
20. If you see someone fall, lift them—not mock nor laugh at them.

*ENCOURAGEMENT:*
The measure of true success and abundance is not in how much we keep to ourselves, but in how much we’re willing to give to others. When you choose generosity, kindness, and support, you help build a better world—one where everyone has a seat at the table. Be the reason someone believes in God and humanity.
God chose to bless you not because you are wiser or better - God gave you power to be rich: He made you to be a blessing to your generation - do it.
Have a great life ahead.

*International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation: Let's End this Harmful Practice*

Today, February 6, 2026, marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM). This day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of this practice on the health and rights of women and girls.

FGM is a violation of human rights and a form of violence against women and girls. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 230 million girls and women worldwide have undergone FGM, and approximately 4.5 million girls are at risk in 2026.

In Cameroon, the prevalence of FGM is estimated at 1.4%, mainly in the North-West, South-West, Centre, and Far-North regions. The Cameroonian government has taken steps to combat this practice, including adopting an action plan in 2011 and ratifying international instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

The fight against FGM requires a comprehensive and concerted approach. It's essential to raise community awareness, strengthen laws and policies, and provide health services and support to survivors.

*What can we do?*

- Raise awareness among our families, friends, and communities about the dangers of FGM
- Support organizations working to eradicate FGM
- Demand that governments take measures to protect the rights of women and girls

Together, we can create a world where girls and women are free to live without the fear of FGM. * *
