AMEF Wins Menstrual Hygiene Advocacy Champion Award

The Authentique Memorial Empowerment Foundation (AMEF) has won this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Advocacy Champion Award.
Th award was organized by international menstrual hygiene coalition known as the “Redvocate Awards” which took place during “Red Charity Fundraiser Gala” to support displaced girls with dignity kits on May 10, 2025 at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel.
This esteemed recognition is dedicated to honouring individuals and organizations making significant efforts to improve menstrual hygiene and break the stigma surrounding it.
AMEF’s inspiring work and unwavering commitment to this cause according to the Mokwe Welisane Nkeng, General Coordinator of the International Menstrual Hygiene Coalition, have made a difference in the lives of many, their nomination reflected the impact of their dedication.
The Redvocate Awards aim to celebrate trailblazers who are driving positive change and fostering a more inclusive and informed society.
Amongst the many action towards Advocating for better Menstrual Hygiene practices carried out by AMEF, is the EMERGE: Empowering Local Authorities; Advocating for Menstrual Hygiene Management project.
During activities of the project, the Emerge team engaged in impactful advocacy work, providing essential training to quarter heads, traditional leaders, and religious authorities on the critical topic of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).
The enlightening sessions touched upon dispelling myths and addressing taboos surrounding menstruation, an issue that is often overlooked but is crucial for the well-being of women and girls.
One of the focuses of the training was to educate participants on the proper usage of both reusable and disposable pads, as well as the responsible management of their disposal.
This practical knowledge equiped local leaders with the tools needed to support women and girls in their communities in maintaining proper menstrual hygiene practices.
The training was organized into three groups, each tasked with outlining the distinct roles that fathers, religious leaders, and traditional leaders can play in promoting positive attitudes towards menstruation.
By involving these influential figures, Emerge aimed to harness their leadership and guidance to create a more supportive environment for discussing and addressing menstrual health issues.
As the session drew to a close, a resounding call to action resonated among the participants: to actively work towards breaking the social stigma associated with menstruation, to normalize conversations around this natural bodily process, and to contribute to sensitizing local communities on proper Menstrual Hygiene Management practices.
Through these efforts, Emerge paved the way for a more informed and inclusive approach to menstrual health, ensuring that women and girls receive the support and understanding they deserve from their local, traditional, and spiritual authorities.

Agbor Balla Speaks At 3rd
National Ordinary Congress Of PURS,
Saturday April 5, 2025, Yaounde Congress Hall

Today is not just about PURS. Today is about Cameroon. It is about a nation that cries out for justice, for freedom, and for a future worthy of its people.

The regime survives because we are divided. But the day we unite, that is the day they fall!

No single party can win this fight alone. We must build a coalition — a coalition of courage, of conviction, and of commitment to the people!

But I say this to you, and to all the opposition forces across the country: this is not the time for competition between us — this is the time for cooperation!

The people are not waiting for perfect parties — they are waiting for a united force that will deliver change!

If we unite, our victory is not a dream — it becomes our destiny!

Let’s make this election not just a vote, but a referendum for change! Let’s show the whole world that Cameroon is rising!

Cameroon belongs to all of us, pas seulement à une élite qui confisque le pouvoir depuis des décennies.

The time for silence is over. The time for fear is over. The time for action is now!

Together, we will turn the pain of our people into power at the polls!

My friends, history is watching us. Our children are watching us. We cannot fail them!

So from this congress of PURS, let the message go forth: Enough is enough! Cameroon deserves better, and together, we will deliver it!

Je vous remercie !

Me Agbor Balla

Moving CCMN Forward:SW Chapter Calls For Adherence To Original Charter

The South West Chapter of the Cameroon Community Media Network (CCMN) has expressed concerns about fundamental issues that have plagued the organization, attributing its current challenges to deviations from the 2017 charter. These concerns were raised during a chapter meeting held over the weekend in Buea.

Members traced the origins of the crisis to procedural missteps, particularly the creation of new chapters without following the 2017 statutes approved by the then Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux.

According to Mallam Jibril Tamfu, a founding member, the establishment of the North West Chapter by the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) without consulting the General Assembly marked the beginning of the network’s difficulties.

"The original charter mandates consultation with the General Assembly before any major decision is taken," Tamfu emphasized. "We were shocked to learn, during Alex's send-off, that a North West Chapter had been created. This was further compounded when the network transitioned to a national structure without adhering to the procedures outlined in the constitution."

The meeting delved into the history of CCMN, revisiting its inaugural peace journalism training and the network's subsequent operational milestones. Members highlighted structural weaknesses and proposed solutions aimed at rejuvenating the network's functionality and fostering stronger leadership.

"A key resolution from our meeting is the urgent need for a functional leadership structure as we approach the 2025 reorganization. The leadership gap has slowed the network's activities and negatively impacted the operations of its chapters," noted Tarhyang Tabe, a member of the chapter.

The South West Chapter members also reaffirmed their commitment to full participation in the upcoming General Assembly. They see it as a critical platform to address these issues and develop actionable proposals for the network's future.

The meeting, chaired by The Chapter President Rev. Dr. Singfred Sinior, concluded with a renewed resolve to strengthen the CCMN and ensure its adherence to foundational principles for effective operations.

Solidarity Health Foundation On Need To End GBV

1. Protecting Human Rights

GBV is a violation of fundamental human rights. Understanding its causes and consequences helps us safeguard everyone’s right to live with dignity, safety, and respect.

2. Breaking the Cycle

Education equips individuals with the tools to identify and challenge harmful behaviors, attitudes, and societal norms that perpetuate violence. Knowledge empowers us to intervene and prevent violence from continuing across generations.

3. Supporting Survivors

By learning about GBV, we can better understand the experiences of survivors, offer meaningful support, and advocate for their justice and healing.

4. Promoting Equality

GBV stems from inequality and discrimination. Educating ourselves fosters awareness of systemic biases and motivates action to create a more equitable and inclusive society.

5. Strengthening Communities

Violence harms not only individuals but also families and communities. Addressing GBV helps build safer, more cohesive, and supportive environments for everyone.

6. Encouraging Accountability

Awareness ensures that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions, dismantling a culture of impunity and reinforcing that violence is never acceptable.

7. Preventing Normalization of Violence

Without education, GBV risks being normalized or dismissed. Understanding the issue helps challenge myths, reduce stigma, and promote healthier attitudes toward relationships and gender roles.

8. Fulfilling Global Goals

Ending GBV aligns with global initiatives like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

9. Empowering Change

Education inspires individuals to become advocates for change. Whether through personal actions, community involvement, or policy advocacy, informed individuals can drive the fight against GBV.

Stopping GBV is not just the responsibility of survivors or activists—it’s a collective responsibility. Education is the first step in creating a world where everyone can live free from violence and fear.

Barrister Ewule Stands With Barrister Tamfu Richard Against Police Brutality

Statement Condemning the Brutality Against Barrister Tamfu Richard

We condemn in the strongest terms the brutal treatment inflicted upon Barrister Tamfu Richard by Gendarmerie officers in Douala this afternoon.

This unjust and violent act occurred solely because he contested the arrest of his client, which was executed via a mere summons rather than a proper warrant of arrest.

Such actions are not only a violation of legal norms but also an affront to the principles of justice and the rule of law.

The use of excessive force against legal practitioners who are merely fulfilling their duty to defend their clients is unacceptable.

It undermines the integrity of our legal system and threatens the very foundation of justice in our society.

Furthermore, we would like to remind the authorities that Cameroon is a signatory to the Convention Against Torture, which unequivocally condemns acts of torture and ill-treatment.

Torture and brutality have no place in a civilized society and contradict our commitment to human rights and dignity.

We call upon the government to take immediate action to investigate this incident thoroughly and to hold accountable those responsible for this heinous act.

It is imperative that we uphold the values of justice, respect, and human rights for all citizens, including those who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of legal advocacy.

We stand in solidarity with Barrister Tamfu Richard and all legal professionals who face intimidation and violence in the course of their work.

Together, we must reaffirm our commitment to a society where the law is respected and where justice prevails without fear or favor.
