« A Cry for Justice and Compassion »
Our hearts are shattered by the unspeakable and horrifying act that led to the death of an innocent 6 years old child in Ngoa Ekelle Yaounde. No words can adequately express the grief, the confusion and the deep sorrow that such an incident brings. To the grieving family we mourn with you, we cry with you and we demand justice with you. No child deserves to be a victim of adult anger or vengeance. This act is not only criminal but it is inhumane and justice must be served swiftly and fully.
However, as we seek justice and healing, we must remember one vital truth which is that LYDOL did not commit this crime. She is not her father's keeper nor can she be held responsible for his actions. Lydol is a beloved Cameroonian artist who has worked hard to represent our culture and voice our struggles through her art. She is also a human being now caught in a storm she did not choose or cause.
Directing hatred toward her in this moment does not serve the victim. It does not bring justice. It only deepens the tragedy. Let us not misplace our pain.
This is a time to be just when directing our anger not just emotional. It’s a time to focus our outrage where it belongs on the act and on the individual who committed it. Let us support the victim’s family with all we have legally, emotionally and communally. And let us also show wisdom and maturity by allowing the law to isolate guilt from innocence.
We must be better than the violence we condemn.
