calls amidst heightened anger, frustration

Never in the history of Cameroon have calls for peace bombarded the ears, echoing from every corner of the country as it is the case now. Administrators, civil society, religious, traditional authorities, multiplying sittings to talk peace and issuing releases to preach peace. But why call for peace?
It’s been 12 days since Cameroonians went to the polls to elect a President who will steer the wheels of the country for the next seven years and while official results are expected on October 27, there’s heightened anger, bitterness and frustration.
The excitement from the exit poll in the evening of October 12, based on trends, which showed that opposition candidate, Issa Tchiroma Bakary was well on course to become Cameroon’s third Head of State, quickly turned to sadness and frustration for many.
Allegations of ballot stuffing, falsification of election return sheets, inflating figures to favour the incumbent among other electoral ills have continued to animate several debates.
Whether these allegations are founded or not, Cameroonians, in their majority have been asking more questions than they have had answers.
Yes, phone cameras captured individuals stuffing ballot boxes, inflating the number of ballots cast in some polling stations or running away with ballot boxes and these images and videos have been trending on social media networks. All of these in whose favour? Your answer is good as mine.
Two days ago, the National Vote Counting Commission concluded the compilation of results from the 58 Divisions of the country and the figures, already in circulation give the sitting President a 53% victory ahead of his immediate challenger, Tchiroma with 35%.
These figures alone have pricked the bile of those who are declaring to have voted in their numbers for the FSNC opposition candidate. They have been voicing their frustration claiming their victory has been STOLEN.
In the past days, streets protest and, in some cases, acts of vandalism have been recorded in Douala, Yaounde, Garoua, Dschang, Maroua, Ngaoundere, Kaele, Guider, Mokolo… and more demonstrations are feared in the days ahead.
The atmosphere surrounding the post-election period has left many fearing that the worse may happen.
This explains the numerous calls for peace. But what if the results to be declared Monday do not reflect the ballot box, will it not be normal for those who feel their victory has been STOLEN to demand for the right thing to be done?
PEACE????? Yes! But what about the common Cameroonian who has been subjected to misery for several years, will he see peace from the same lens as the one who has been dipping his hands into the state purse and feeding fat.
War has never been a solution because the end result will only be destruction but isn’t it time to stop the pretense, do the right thing and avoid pouring more fuel into the already lit fire?

In 2022, a politician once told me on phone how they “won” the Belo municipal elections.

He said they left town and drove into Belo in an armored car a week before elections, camping in the council hall.

On election day, they gave the army instructions to fire gunshots into the air not for security, but to scare people away, especially those who actually planned to vote. That way, they’d be free to “build whatever numbers they liked.

Fast forward to this year’s elections gunshots were again reported early in the morning in Njinikom, Belo, and Fundong.
When I heard that, I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly because I already knew what was going on.

Fundong, the most active subdivision, still managed to turn out, with reports saying a little over 800 people voted.
But somehow, Belo a town where the streets were completely empty reportedly had over 3,000 voters.

How do empty streets vote massively?

It’s this level of dishonesty that pushes people to lose faith in the idea of a “united Cameroon.”
You can’t keep pushing people to the wall and expect them not to fight back.

October 12 Presidential election:

Lake Nyos survivors declare support for Bello Bouba

Some survivors of Lake Nyos disaster & NUDP campaign team in Buabua
Survivors of the Lake Nyos disaster residing in Buabua, Bum Subdivision have in a powerful show of solidarity and conviction, pledged their full support to Bello Bouba Maïgari, the candidate of the National Union for Democracy and Progress, UNDP in the upcoming presidential election.
Speaking during a meeting led by NUDP campaign coordinator for Boyo, Dr Yunji Wilson Yai, the survivors expressed deep disappointment and frustration over the decades of total neglect by the CPDM regime.
They recalled that since the tragic explosion of August 21, 1986, which forced them into resettlement in Buabua, the government has failed to provide the most basic amenities, including roads, potable water, electricity, internet, and non-rehabilitation of the buildings constructed as emergency shelters since 1987.
They lamented that when the Anglophone crisis erupted in 2017 and several houses in Buabua were burnt, no CPDM elite or government official visited the area to assess the damages or assist the victims.
In their statement, they made it clear that even if CPDM wins everywhere, Buabua will stand out in protest.
“Our votes will be our voice against decades of neglect and silence,” they said.
The survivors reaffirmed that their support for Bello Bouba Maïgari is a vote for justice, dignity, and a new beginning, a leadership that listens to the forgotten, restores hope to the neglected, and rebuilds communities left behind.
They have promised to make their voices heard by effectively casting their votes for the NUDP candidate on October 12.

Njinikom:

CPDM supporters freed

Five of the seven supporters of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party who were abducted from their homes, after taking part in a campaign meeting at the Njinikom, are said to have regained their freedom, while two others are still reportedly being held by the abductors.
The CPDM communal campaign team for Njinikom for the 2025 Presidential election, led by Mayor Yong Samuel Loh, had organised a heavily attended meeting on October 4.
This was to mobilise support for the party candidate, President Paul Biya, in the October 12 presidential election.
This heavy mobilisation is reported not to have gone down well with armed men said to have separatists, who have been calling for a boycott of the election.
While the party was strategising to fully engage the door-to-door campaign strategy prescribed by hierarchy, suspected separatist targeted some of the CPDM supporters, whisking them off to their camp.
The abducted persons are said to have spent a few days in captivity before being freed. Its not cleared whether those who already regained their freedom paid ransom or not.
The CPDM Boyo I Section President, Mayor Yong Samuel Loh, who doubles as campaign team leader for Njinikom in the forthcoming presidential election confirmed the release of the party supporters in a phone interview with Boyo Eye on Thursday October 9.
He said despite the threats and attacks, they are determined to mobilise as many supporters and sympathisers of the CPDM to vote for President Paul Biya on October 12.

Bouba’s campaign message echoed in Bum

From Kimbi through Kideh, Njinijuo to Fonfuka, Dr Yunji Wilson Yai has been meeting with hundreds of supporters and sympathisers of the National Union for Democracy and Progress, NUDP and preaching the message of their candidate, Bello Bouba Maigari ahead of the October 12, 2025 Presidential election.

According to the NUDP campaign team, Biya has failed woefully in his over 40 decades leadership and its time for home to give way.

They see Bello Bouba Maigari as the only next best alternative for the Cameroon presidency.

“The Bum community is reassessing its 28-year loyalty due to socio-economic neglect by CPDM elites, who focus on vote solicitation rather than providing basic services such as roads, portable water, electricity, and healthcare facilities. Does the regime ensure local CPDM elites embody the people's aspirations? Furthermore, does the regime oversee resource allocation to guarantee it reaches intended recipients? Despite the community's unwavering loyalty since 1997, the regime has not appointed sons and daughters from Bum to higher positions as a gesture of appreciation. Although the Fonfuka Council is the pioneer CPDM council in the North West Region, Bum has not witnessed significant development, unlike other communities that have produced ministers, prime ministers, and directors-general. Can we reconcile our support for the ruling party with the community's lack of access to basic necessities like portable water, resulting in risks such as drowning during river crossings?”
