70 Waste Collection Vans Handed Over to Yaoundé Councils to Boost Cleanliness
Yaoundé, Cameroon; The government has handed over 70 waste collection vans to the seven councils of the Mfoundi division as part of an ongoing effort to maintain Yaoundé’s status as the country’s cleanest city.
The vans, provided by the Head of State, were officially delivered by the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, during a ceremony in the capital. Each of the seven councils received multiple vans to strengthen household waste evacuation and improve urban sanitation.
Speaking at the event, Minister Elanga Obam reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local councils with the necessary equipment to keep the city clean and environmentally healthy. The initiative aligns with the state’s broader programme to modernise waste management in major urban centres.
Council officials have welcomed the donation, pledging to use the vans efficiently to curb illegal dumping and enhance the quality of life for residents.
