Thailand Students Unite for Peace on the Korean Peninsula

On March 3, 2025, approximately 625 teachers and students gathered at the Islamic College of Thailand to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). The event, organized by the international peace NGO Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), aimed to promote world peace and Korean unification.

During the event, participants wrote "Peace Letters" to support the DPCW, expressing their hopes for the unification of the Korean Peninsula. They also filmed a video under the theme "We Are One for Korea," sending a peace message to global citizens. This heartfelt gesture demonstrates the students' commitment to promoting peace and unity.

The DPCW, proclaimed by HWPL on March 14, 2016, is a comprehensive document comprising 10 articles and 38 clauses. Its purpose is to promote sustainable peace by restoring the spirit that served as the basis for the establishment of the United Nations. The DPCW embodies principles and measures for preventing and resolving conflicts, ultimately sustaining a peaceful global society.

HWPL has been actively engaging with the Islamic College of Thailand since signing an MOU in 2022. The organization has conducted cultural exchange and volunteer activities, including a Korean Teaching Class at the school. Last year, HWPL provided peace education training for teachers and helped establish the school as the first in Thailand to introduce peace education across all classes.

Chollada Suawong, a teacher at the Islamic College of Thailand, emphasized the importance of peace education for young generations. "HWPL's peace activities are always excellent for fostering values of respect, love, and peace-building in society," she said.

The support for Korean Peninsula unification at this commemorative event holds special significance, given Thailand's historical relationship with Korea. Thailand's participation in the Korean War and its ongoing commitment to peace make this event a meaningful step towards promoting peace and unity in the region.

This coming May, the Islamic College of Thailand will host the 12th anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Declaration and a Peace Walk event. These activities are expected to promote a culture of peace in Thailand, inspiring a new generation of peace leaders.

African Union Commission Hosts Historic Workshop on Reparations

The African Union Commission (AUC) recently hosted a two-day international workshop titled

The Role of Faith Communities and Ethical Organizations in Advancing Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations

The event, held from February 27-28, 2025, at Kuriftu Resort and the AU Commission headquarters, brought together approximately 70 dignitaries, including high-level officials, religious leaders, scholars, and human rights advocates. The Addis Ababa Declaration

The workshop culminated in the signing of the Addis Ababa Declaration by Religious, Ethical, and Scientific Organizations on Reparations, which emphasizes the moral and legal imperatives of implementing reparations. The declaration acknowledges the profound and lasting effects of slavery, colonialism, and racial discrimination on Africans and people of African descent. It also calls for concrete actions, including:

- Establishment of an AU Committee of Experts on Reparations: to develop a unified African policy and implement an African Program of Action on Reparations.
- Recognition of ecological debt: as part of the reparations framework, addressing the environmental harm caused by colonial exploitation and resource extraction.
- Formation of an Ethical Reference Group: to guide the AU's reparations efforts and urge the African Union to declare a Decade of Reparations to raise global awareness and promote restorative justice.

Key Outcomes and Future Initiatives

The workshop aimed to deepen cooperation between the African Union and faith-based organizations in addressing reparative justice and historical accountability. The participating organizations committed to pursuing three key initiatives:

1. Establishing the African Religious Peace Academy (ARPA): to promote interfaith dialogue and educational programs focused on religious harmony and peace building across the continent.
2. Exploring the establishment of a continental religious unity body: under the AU framework, to bring together African religious leaders and cooperate with the AU on advancing HWPL's global peace agenda and fostering religious solidarity.
3. Forming a peace mediation body: to facilitate conflict resolution across African nations, providing practical mechanisms for addressing regional disputes through dialogue and mediation in collaboration with the AU.

These initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the African Union and faith-based organizations to advancing justice and promoting restorative justice for Africans and people of African descent.

Religious Freedom Violation and Intolerance Spark International Controversy
South Korean local government cancels international event with 30,000 participants from 78 countries, causing international damage

On October 29th, an administrative decision by a South Korean government agency sparked international controversy, raising concerns about religious freedom and causing substantial financial loss.

The “Religious Leaders Forum and Graduation Ceremony,” a joint initiative by two prominent religious organizations, was set to take place in Paju, South Korea. The event was expected to draw over 30,000 participants from 57 countries, including 1,000 religious leaders representing Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism.

However, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, a public entity under Gyeonggi Province, abruptly canceled the venue rental without prior notice. This last-minute decision has resulted in significant financial damage to the international event. Organizers of this event stated that the cancellation constitutes an unconstitutional act of discrimination against a specific religion, violating religious freedom, human rights, and due process of law.

The hosting organizations, the Association for Buddhist National Unification of Korea and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, said that they had received official confirmation on October 23rd and 28th that there was no plan of cancellation. They also said that the unilateral cancellation was an unreasonable administrative action targeting a specific religious group. They further emphasize that other events scheduled for the same day were not affected, suggesting that the cancellation was “administrative decision caused by opposition from a specific religious group,” which “violates the principle of separation of church and state guaranteed by the Constitution.”

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization cited security concerns related to recent North Korean actions and the planned activities of a North Korean defector group as reasons for the cancellation. However, it was pointed out that other events, such as civilian bike rides and foreign tourist visits to the DMZ, were permitted within the same designated area.

The incident has reignited international debate about religious freedom and tolerance in South Korea. The U.S. State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report has previously highlighted concerns such as the prosecution of Shincheonji Church of Jesus (found not guilty) and the government's refusal to approve mosque construction.

The Association for Buddhist National Unification of Korea and Shincheonji Church of Jesus call upon the South Korean government to respect religious freedom, uphold human rights, and rectify this unjust decision. They urge international organizations to monitor this situation and take appropriate action to protect religious freedom.

The 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit Celebrates a Decade of Global Commitment to Peace

🕊️ , South Korea – On September 18, 2024, the 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit will be celebrated in South Korea and various locations worldwide reaching 122 countries. Under the theme 'Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration', this event commemorates, global leaders’ and citizens’ commitment to peace that lasted for a decade, with an eye towards future strategies to promote global harmony.

In 2014, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization, convened over a thousand global leaders from politics, religion, women's groups, youth organizations, and the media from about 140 countries to the inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit in Seoul. The summit addressed the issues of conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the implementation of legal instruments to ensure lasting peace..

HWPL states that the purpose of the anniversary is to review achievements since 2014 and discuss future plans. The event aims to gather regional talents and establish networks essential for tailored peace strategies, strengthening regional networks to tackle local peace threats and harnessing collective capacities. To achieve this, various sessions will be held in each country at different levels.

Under the slogan "Let’s have everyone become a messenger of peace," HWPL advocates for individual responsibility in promoting peace at all levels. HWPL plans to collect messages of peace from people around the world and reveal them at the event representing the desire for peace and unity of people from all walks of life around the world in the name of peace.

Fostered by the agreements signed in 2014, over the past decade, HWPL, alongside its global partners, committed to addressing global challenges such as military tensions, economic disputes, climate change, and cyber security threats through enhanced regional cooperation and collective action. HWPL’s dedicated to establishing a robust peace governance framework, connecting international organizations, governments, and civil societies.

Back in the 9th Anniversary in 2023, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL said, “Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is politics, and for whom is it for? When war breaks out, it is young people who are sacrificed. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. If peace had won in this world, there would have been no regrettable deaths. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.”

Abubakari II Mansa (African king who Arrived America before Columbus)
______
Abubakari II, Mansa (King) of the Mali Empire in the 14th century, led Malian sailors to the America(s), specifically present-day Brazil, almost 200 years before Columbus arrived. He ruled what was arguably the richest and largest empire on earth, covering nearly all West Africa.

Abubakari wanted to find out whether the Atlantic Ocean- like the great River Niger that swept through the Mali Empire had another bank, he had travelled extensively throughout and outside the African continent. Already owing most of the continent, His predecessor and Uncle Soundjata Keita, had already founded the Mali empire and conquered a good stretch of the Sahara desert and a great forest along the West African coast.

African-Guyanese historian Ivan Van Sertima, writing on the testimony of Emperor Kanku Musa recorded by the Arab Ibn Amir Hajib and transcribed by Al Omari in the 14th century in Egypt during the pilgrimage of Musa Explained:

"" lured by exploration, Abubakari II called engineers from the lake Chad who were known to build ships just like their Egyptians (kemetic) ancestors and to studied every ship on the Rivers Djoliba (Niger) and Senegal to help him launch a massive fleet on the Aethopian (Atlantic) Ocean. He also hired a large and diverse crews, sailors, traders, builders, artist warriors and learned men and he supplied them with large rations lasting two years. The fleet went across the western ocean relying on the unique system of drum 🥁 communication".

Abubakari II handed his throne to his brother, Kankou Moussa, and set off on an expedition into the unknown in 1311.
“The emperor gave up all power and gold to pursue knowledge and discovery,”
His brother, Kankou Moussa (Mansa Musa) would become the richest man in all of history.

On Abubakari II’s arrival in Brazil...
"He decides that he will journey across the ocean to rule this new land he called "Boure Bambouk", after the riches goldfields of the Mali Empire. The third year in the fledgling colony of Boure Bambouk, the first under the direction of Abubakari II, sees its highs and lows. Abubakari establishes the first diplomatic contacts with the curious Tupi tribes of the region, encouraging trade with them.

Through this trade, the colonists of Boure Bambouk are first acquainted with New World crops, including corn, beans, peanuts, to***co, cotton, and tropical fruits. Such agricultural commodities will allow the colony to become self-sustaining. Likewise, Old World livestock, such as cattle, sheep, and guinea fowl, are first introduced to the Tupi, as are cereal grains like rice, millet, and sorghum.

In 1314, Abubakari sends a boat back to Mali to petition his brother for more support. Mansa Musa is impressed by the new crops presented to him, and garners more settlers and aid to send to Boure Bambouk. Thus begins a back-and-forth exchange of Bamboukian goods in return for Malian assistance. Agriculture of corn, beans, peanuts, peppers, and cotton will set off a population explosion in Mali, that will provide future settlers from across the sea.”

Beyond Columbus, evidence of African contributions to American civilization includes “importing the art of pyramid building, political systems and religious practices as well as mathematics, writing and a sophisticated calendar”.

Van Sertima cites the Aztec divinity Quetzalcoatl who is sometimes represented in Mexico as a Black man with a beard, dressed in white, who arrived in 6 cycles after the last man who came from the foreign lands.

Others also say the presence of stones heads with ‘African features’ of the ancient Olmec Civilization in South America, prior to the Aztecs and Mayans, is even more proof.

Mant mounting evidence suggest that African presence in the Americas before Columbus, it may be fair to say that Africa’s relationship with the Americas did not start with slavery. But with sailors, explorers, and kings.
