CONSTITUENCY ACTION
Hon. Fonge Julius Leads Inspection of Singem–Mbetta–Elumba Road Construction
The long-standing challenge of poor road infrastructure in Kupe Muanengouba is gradually being addressed, thanks to the tireless efforts of Honourable Fonge Julius, Member of Parliament for the constituency. On a recent field visit, the MP led an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of the Singem–Mbetta–Elumba Road, a 30-kilometer stretch funded by the Ministry of Public Works with a budget of nearly 300 million CFA francs.
The project is a result of Hon. Fonge’s persistent lobbying at the highest levels of government, as part of his broader vision to fight against the enclavement of Kupe Muanengouba. The constituency, historically plagued by poor road infrastructure, has often suffered from isolation, making economic activities, healthcare access, and general mobility a major challenge for its inhabitants.
Since assuming office, Hon. Fonge Julius has made infrastructure development a top priority, understanding that roads are the backbone of economic growth and social progress. His commitment to breaking the barriers of isolation has seen him consistently engage with President Paul Biya, the Minister of Public Works, and other government officials to push for funding and follow up on projects to ensure their realization. His efforts have already yielded significant results, with several road projects being approved and implemented across the constituency.
During his visit to the construction site, Hon. Fonge was accompanied by a delegation including Mr. Ajang Evaristus, Section President of CPDM Kupe Muanengouba 2; Dr. Esong Simon, President of YCPDM Kupe Muanengouba 2; Esapa Patricia Ndoa Epse Eyeni, Alternate Member of Parliament for Kupe Muanengouba 2; and Esapa George, the contractor overseeing the ex*****on of the project.
Speaking at the site, the MP reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the people of Kupe Muanengouba enjoy better roads, emphasizing that no community should remain cut off from development. He urged the contractor to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe, stressing that the government’s investment in the project must translate into tangible benefits for the population.
It should be noted that in addition to the Singem–Mbetta–Elumba Road, Hon. Fonge Julius has, since 2022, lobbied for and secured government approval and financing for several other critical road projects aimed at opening up remote areas. These include the Mwangwekan–Nzobi Road project, Mwangwekan–Njuiyue Road project to dis-enclave the Banyue Clan, and the Ngongo–Njungo Road project. Additionally, he has sponsored feasibility studies for many other projects and provided financial support to community-led efforts aimed at opening strategic roads, such as the Kokobuma–Badun–Ntale Road and the Banyue community road projects.
The commitment of Hon. Fonge Julius to infrastructure development complements the efforts of other key figures who have long championed progress in Kupe Muanengouba. Notably, His Excellency Minister Elung Paul Che, Assistant Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, has played a central role in securing major projects, with his dedication being rewarded by the ongoing work on the Bangem–Nguti Road. Likewise, Mr. Okie Johnson Ndoh successfully secured an almost 3 billion CFA franc African Development Bank (ADB) sponsorship for the improvement of the Kokobuma–Ntale Road and the Ayong–Sikam Road.
Many development-focused observers in Kupe Muanengouba believe that once these projects are completed, road-related challenges in the Division, particularly in Nguti Subdivision, will be a thing of the past. The combined efforts of Hon. Fonge Julius, Minister Elung Paul, and Okie Johnson Ndoh are gradually transforming the region’s infrastructure, bringing renewed hope to communities that have long suffered from inaccessibility.
A Grateful Population
The people of Singem, Mbetta, and Elumba came out in large numbers to welcome their MP and express their gratitude for his unwavering dedication. They lauded his tireless efforts in securing funding for the road project, which they believe will transform their daily lives by facilitating trade, reducing transportation costs, and improving access to essential services like healthcare and education.
Beyond thanking Hon. Fonge, the population also extended appreciation to President Paul Biya, the Minister of Public Works, and other stakeholders for responding to their development needs. The residents pledged their support to the MP’s initiatives, acknowledging that his leadership has been instrumental in bringing long-awaited change to the constituency.
Hon. Fonge Julius reassured the people of his continued determination to lobby for more development projects in Kupe Muanengouba. “This is just the beginning,” he declared. “We will not rest until every community in our constituency has access to good roads and other essential infrastructure. Development is a collective effort, and I urge all stakeholders to remain committed to this vision.”
With work on the Singem–Mbetta–Elumba Road progressing steadily, the people of Kupe Muanengouba have renewed hope that the days of isolation will soon be behind them. As Hon. Fonge Julius continues to champion the fight against the enclavement of the constituency, his legacy as a development-oriented leader remains firmly rooted in the hearts of his people.
