Cameroonโ€™s Minister of Water Resources and Energy Gaston Eloundou Essomba met a delegation from Nigeriaโ€™s Mainstream Energy Solutions on May 25 in Yaounde to review progress on the proposed Dasin Hausa hydroelectric project and the studies required before it can move forward.

The project, planned downstream of the Lagdo dam, is expected to support electricity generation, flood control and irrigation while strengthening economic ties between Cameroon and Nigeria.

Cameroonian video game development company Kiroโ€™o Games announces that its first mobile game is available on Google Playโ€™s โ€œearly accessโ€ (that allows users to try the game before its official release).

According to Olivier Madiba (promoter of the startup), the game entitled โ€œLe Responsible Mboaโ€ allows the player to take on the role of the high-ranking official of a fictitious republic named โ€œMboaโ€.

Cameroonโ€™s Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Crafts (CCIMA) has launched a new initiative to help local textile operators expand their presence in international markets by encouraging participation in Bharat Tex 2026, a move expected to support export growth and strengthen trade ties with India.

In a press release signed by CCIMA Secretary General Halidou Bello, the Chamber invited companies operating in fabrics, garments, fashion, household linen, artisanal weaving, technical textiles, handicrafts, carpets and intelligent production systems to participate in the global exhibition, scheduled for July 14โ€“17, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

A new cocoa post-harvest treatment plant backed by Japan has opened in Djop, on the southern outskirts of Ebolowa, in a move expected to improve bean quality, support local processing and strengthen Cameroonโ€™s position in higher-value cocoa exports.

The 1,000-square-metre facility, commissioned on May 18 under Japanese cooperation, is designed to improve cocoa fermentation, drying and storage conditions for producers in the South region.

Six European ambassadors have completed a five-day mission across the North and Far North regions, visiting development projects, refugee camps, universities and local communities. The field tour was aimed at assessing the impact of cooperation programmes financed by the European Union, EU, and its member States.

The diplomatic mission began in Maroua, where the six heads of mission met Far North Governor Midjiyawa Bakari before setting off to inspect projects across Maroua, Mora, Minawao and Garoua. The delegation was led by the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon, H.E. Jean-Marc Chรขtaigner, and included the ambassadors of Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and Italy.

Cameroonโ€™s customs authorities have ordered telecom operators MTN Cameroon, Orange Cameroon, and Camtel to block mobile phones and digital devices that were not cleared through customs.

In a letter dated May 18, Customs Director General Fongod Edwin Nuvaga instructed the operators to begin blocking the devices starting May 25, 2026.

Union Bank of Cameroon (UBC) closed the 2025 financial year with sharply higher earnings as the bank accelerated lending activity and prepared for a major capital increase.

During the annual general meeting held May 6 in Douala, shareholders approved financial statements showing net profit rose more than 56% to CFA5 billion, up from CFA3.2 billion in 2024.

Cameroonโ€™s microinsurance market has gained a new player with the arrival of Gabonese insurer Sambโ€™a Assurances.

The company announced May 21 in Douala the launch of Sambโ€™a Assurances Cameroun SA, which it describes as the countryโ€™s first company fully dedicated to microinsurance.

The Cameroonian government is finalising a new national biodiversity strategy aimed at positioning natural ecosystems as a central pillar of the countryโ€™s economic transformation agenda under the National Development Strategy (NDS30). The third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SPANB III) is expected to receive final validation on 22 May 2026 during the commemoration of the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The latest phase of the process was launched on 18 May in Mbankomo, where the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), Paul Tchawa, chaired a national multi-stakeholder workshop bringing together sector ministries, researchers, universities and civil society organisations. The meeting focused on the review and pre-validation of the strategic document after a two-year revision process.
