ANSAMA TEH SCHOLARSHIP FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: GCE AL & OL CATEGORIES 2024

In partnership with AFRICA NEEDS US FOUNDATION, we will offer the Ansama Teh Scholarship for Academic Excellence among BRILLIANT IDPs this year 2024 in the categories of GCE OL into Lower Sixth and GCE Advanced Level into University.

Description: This scholarship is aimed at promoting educational excellence among BRILLIANT IDPs in the belief that education is the key to socio-economic empowerment and emancipation as well as collective development. The scholarship honours the memory of my mother Ansama Teh who believed passionately in the power of education as evidenced in the countless sacrifices she made to educate me. In addition, we must not wait until we have something big before we learn to bless other people.

Value of Scholarship for GCE OL Category: 50,000FCFA to cover school fees and exercise books for first year (lower sixth) in a public high school. It will NOT include the student’s house rents and feeding. It will NOT include textbooks. And the IDP or orphan student must be enrolling for lower sixth in a public/government high school. This also includes mentorship and guidance towards obtaining international scholarships after the first degree if all conditions are met. ONLY ONE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE OFFERED IN THIS CATEGORY.

Target Beneficiary: An Anglophone Cameroonian IDP or orphan, without salaried parents, having performed BRILLIANTLY in the Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level for the June 2024 session, a minimum of 20/30 points. Preference will be given to a student who is an orphan or whose unsalaried parents are farmers and based in their native community, instead of one whose parents have settled and are working in a city or one whose parents are civil servants or have a stable salary. That is to say, preference will be given to a student who has managed to escape the ongoing war to study in a safer place while his or her farming or unsalaried parents have remained in their native community.

Eligibility Criteria: The student must be an IDP, and whose parents are preferably based in their local community. The student must have performed BRILLIANTLY in the GCE Ordinary Level June 2024 session, preferably a minimum of 20/30 points.

Note Better: The scholarship does NOT include accommodation and feeding. It only covers the student’s first year fees in high school (lower sixth). And we reserve the right to extend the scholarship or part of it in the second year in high school (upper sixth) on the condition that the selected student maintains excellent academic performance, that is, he or she is promoted to Upper Sixth with a minimum annual average of 15/20. We also reserve the right to NOT award the scholarship if no candidate qualifies for it.

Value of Scholarship for GCE AL Category: School fees to the value of 50,000 FCFA for the first year in a public university, but excluding professional degrees which cost above 50,000FCFA. It will NOT include exercise books or the student’s house rents and feeding. It will NOT include textbooks. And the IDP student must have passed the GCE AL in 2024 and be enrolling for a degree in a public university (among the eleven state universities in Cameroon). This also includes mentorship and guidance towards obtaining international scholarships after the first degree if all conditions are met. ONLY ONE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE OFFERED IN THIS CATEGORY.

Target Beneficiary: An Anglophone Cameroonian IDP or orphan, without salaried parents, having performed BRILLIANTLY in the Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level for the June 2024 session, a minimum of 15/25 points. Preference will be given to an IDP student who is an orphan or whose unsalaried parents are farmers and based in their native community, instead of one whose parents have settled and are working in a city or one whose parents are civil servants or have a stable salary. That is to say, preference will be given to a student who has managed to escape the ongoing war to study in a safer place while his or her farming or unsalaried parents have remained in their native community.

Eligibility Criteria: The student must be an IDP, and whose parents are preferably based in their local community. The student must have performed BRILLIANTLY in the GCE Advanced Level June 2024 session, preferably a minimum of 15/25 points.

Note Better: The scholarship does NOT include exercise books, accommodation and feeding. It only covers the student’s first year fees (50,000FCFA) in a public university, excluding professional degrees which cost above 50,000FCFA. There is no commitment to extend the scholarship to the second year of studies at the university. However, we reserve the right to extend the scholarship or part of it in the second year on the condition that we have funding and that the selected student maintains excellent academic performance, that is, he or she is promoted to the second year with a minimum annual Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00/4, 16/20 or 80/100. We also reserve the right to NOT award the scholarship if no candidate qualifies for it.

Nomination Procedure: Kindly forward a student's GCE OL results slip with birth certificate, full names and description of his or her parents' location and professions to the channels below. The nominating person must provide further information about themselves and how they came to know the IDP in question. Preference will be given to a student nominated by a person of INTEGRITY with a TRACK RECORD of working with and/or assisting Anglophone IDPs. For the GCE AL category, in addition to the slip and birth certificate, the student must submit a 500-word essay explaining why he or she deserves the scholarship and how it will help her or him to achieve his career objectives. All information is subject to THOROUGH verifications on our part. Additional information may be requested.

Deadline for Nominations: 31 August 2024.

Plea and Other Matters: We count on the collaboration of people of GOODWILL and integrity in identifying and nominating candidates for this scholarship from today till 31 August 2024. Kindly send nominations, including result slips, birth certificates and essays, to Nsah Mala via Messenger or email (nsahmala @ yahoo.com) or other means. An announcement will also be made once the two winning candidates have been selected. We reserve the right not to offer the scholarship if nobody qualifies for it.

One of the most recent Master's thesis in Translation Studies defended by FOPA SAHA Brinda at the Yaoundé-based Institut Supérieur des Langues, de Traduction, d’Interprétation et de Communication (ISTIC) focused on my third poetry collection in English entitled If You Must Fall Bush (, 2016).

Congratulations, Brinda! You have great prospects in literary translation.

I am once more honoured by this thesis and other forms of scholarly research (articles, dissertations, theses, etc.) based on my creative-literary works.

Je suis une fois de plus honorée par cette thèse et d'autres formes de recherches académiques (articles, mémoires, thèses, etc.) basées sur mes œuvres créatives-littéraires.

📢 Exciting News - Applications for the 2024 Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) Fellowship are now open. This is a life-changing opportunity, I must admit as one of the 2023 NGFP Fellows (Judges' Choice).

The NGFP Fellowship Invites:

Those who are passionate about using futures and foresight methods to create a positive impact in their communities, those tackling some of the world's most complex issues, and those whose work align with SOIF’s Foresight Transformation Missions.

Are you also a changemaker using futures and foresight to address complex issues and create positive impact? If you’re 18-35 years old, or have less than 5 years of experience using foresight, we encourage you to apply to the 2024 NGFP Fellowship!

This year, the NGFP Fellowship continues to have a Balkans fellowship in memory of our dear colleague Sophie Middlemiss, and we’ve added a Middle East & North Africa fellowship in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation.

NGFP Fellowship strives for a truly global representation to ensure our network significantly includes people of the global majority. Currently, we receive fewer applications from changemakers in Central & West Africa (outside of Nigeria), Latin America and Oceania.

Do you know someone who lives and/or works in these regions who would be a good fit? Encourage them to apply: https://nextgenforesight.org/fellowship/apply/

Teach the Future's NGFP-Young Voices Award applications for 12-17 year olds will open in April, so watch that space!

"Foresight is not a spectator sport, and it’s definitely not an individual competition. Attempting to map the future on your own is ineffective and futile. Going it alone will not only hinder your work product, but it will limit your own potential as a futurist. ... Foresight isn’t a numbers game, it’s a mental sport." --Yvette Montero Salvatico
