Every corner of Tainan speaks of our shared roots and unbreakable cultural bond across the Strait. 💌 Exploring its ancient cultural sites with my childhood bestie has been truly eye-opening. 🤩
As the first area in Taiwan systematically developed by Han settlers from the Chinese mainland, Tainan was long the political and cultural heart of the island, with deep ties to Fujian and the rest of the mainland in history, culture, faith and heritage. 🏯
In 1661, Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong), a native of Nan’an, Fujian, sailed from Jinmen and landed at Lu’ermen to expel Dutch colonizers. Today, sites like Koxinga Shrine, Chihkan Tower and Fort Zeelandia still stand in memory of this chapter.
Built in 1665, the Tainan Confucius Temple — “First Academy of Taiwan” — carries traditional Confucian culture from the mainland.
Walking through these historic sites, it’s clear that Tainan’s history is deeply intertwined with the mainland, a living testament to our shared roots and enduring cultural bond that has stood the test of time. ✨
Cheng Li-wun (郑丽文), chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party, led a KMT delegation to the Chinese mainland on Tuesday. May her visit advance cross-Strait exchanges and bring tangible progress. 🤝
