On August 3, HTC released a teaser poster announcing the launch of a new VIVE-series product on August 14. Judging by the imagery, the upcoming device is expected to be a pair of AR smart glasses designed for immersive experiences when connected to smartphones like the HTC U24 Pro.

Last month, HTC VIVE revealed plans to host a launch event titled “What’s Next” at Taipei 101 on August 14, hinting at the debut of their first smart glasses. While the official teaser simply states “The Future is Coming,” no specific product details have been disclosed yet.

HTC previously launched the VIVE Flow VR glasses in 2021, a lightweight (189g) headset focused on mobile-connected immersive VR experiences. That device featured 3.2K resolution, a 100° field of view, and a 75Hz refresh rate, retailing in China at CNY 3,888. The new release is expected to expand HTC’s footprint in the wearable XR space.

Xiaomi’s first AI glasses were officially launched in late June this year, starting at CNY 1,999. The device is available in three frame styles and supports both online and offline lens customization. It features a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers, the Xiao Ai voice assistant, and an optional electrochromic lens version.

According to the latest update on July 31, at the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards during ChinaJoy, Zhang Lei—Vice President of Xiaomi’s Mobile Department and General Manager of the Wearables Division—announced that the Alipay “Look and Pay” QR scanning feature for Xiaomi AI Glasses will roll out around September.

As explained in Xiaomi’s official guide, users wearing the AI glasses can complete a payment simply by saying, “Xiao Ai, scan to pay,” without needing to take out their phone. The feature supports Alipay merchant QR codes, personal payment codes, order codes, and some aggregated codes. However, it cannot process payments involving product selection or additional input after scanning.

Zhang Lei also mentioned that the Xiaomi AI Glasses are equipped with the Snapdragon AR1 chip, enabling a first-person camera experience.

The Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform has been optimized for low power consumption under thermal constraints, making it suitable for lightweight smart glasses. It supports direct photo-taking, sharing, or live streaming from the glasses, freeing up the user's hands.

Moreover, on-device AI enables enhanced audio, visual search, and real-time translation. The platform also supports heads-up display for seamless content consumption—including video—within the user’s field of view.

The 32nd Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition (BIRTV2025) was recently held in Beijing, attracting over 500 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and regions. The event featured 10 exhibition zones and 6 immersive experience areas. Among the highlights was the world’s first Mars-themed Location-Based Entertainment VR project with 3A-grade visuals, making its global debut.

3A-grade visuals represent the highest quality standard in interactive gaming. In the LBE VR immersive zone, China’s independently developed project Mission to Mars: Origins made its first appearance. It is also the third virtual reality immersive interactive film in China to receive a public screening license.

This 40-minute immersive journey allows participants to step into the year 2050 as volunteers for a Mars landing mission. Visitors traverse a sandstorm-swept Martian surface and dive into a floating underwater city to uncover the mystery behind the fall of an ancient Martian civilization. Guided by the deputy commander Tianyin and a robot named Blue, participants engage in high-intensity missions such as exploration, rescue, puzzle-solving, and escape.

The exhibition also featured Mediastorm, a popular media-tech platform among younger audiences, which showcased a dynamic 3D modeling technology incorporating the dimension of time—enabling realistic reconstruction of scenes across both space and time.

On July 29, 2025, TOALL Technology officially launched their new Visual-X VR Glasses at XR product event in Haining, Jiaxing, Zhejiang. VRAR World reporters were invited to attend the launch.

The Visual-X features a lightweight design with the main unit weighing only about 200g, breaking the stereotype that high performance means heavy and bulky devices. It offers a stunning 4.5K resolution paired with a 360° surround view, delivering virtual worlds with lifelike detail.

Designed with Asian facial features in mind, it includes adjustable temple arms and independent vision correction for prescriptions from 0 to 800 degrees, ensuring a comfortable and personalized fit.

According to Sohu Tech on July 28, Xiaomi’s first AI glasses project was personally approved by Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi.

Li Chuangqi, the head of the project, revealed that the AI glasses quickly sold out after launch, with demand exceeding expectations by several times—even though the team had already stocked more units than many startups produce in a year.

To ensure the product's success in a short time, the team opted for some of the most expensive components. Despite the retail price of CNY 1,999 allowing for a positive gross margin, the overall project remains unprofitable due to high R&D and production costs.

Xiaomi’s AI glasses are now available in thousands of Xiaomi Home retail stores and are also being sold through hundreds of traditional eyewear boutiques. Li expressed hope that, within three years, the Xiaomi platform can help advance the smart glasses supply chain.

By then, Xiaomi aims for annual shipments to exceed 5 million units. With over 700 million people in China suffering from myopia, the total smart glasses market could surpass 50 million units annually.

On July 25, images of Alibaba's soon-to-launch AR/AI smart glasses surfaced online. Branded as Tmall Genie WOW, the device integrates key functions like photo capture, music playback, navigation, payment, translation, and teleprompting.

The glasses feature a Sony RGB camera, dual green JBD MicroLED projectors, and two embossed diffraction waveguides (from Ziguang). It's powered by Qualcomm’s AR1 chipset and the Bestechnic BES2800 audio SoC.

Notably, the design adopts a rear-mounted layout — placing the motherboard and battery toward the end of the temple arms. This allows for a slimmer, more comfortable fit compared to most current AI/AR glasses (e.g., Ray-Ban Meta, Xiaomi, Oakley), which house bulkier components mid-arm due to chip size constraints.

The Tmall Genie WOW aims to achieve a full-feature set without compromising wearability. Unlike some lightweight competitors that sacrifice key hardware (such as cameras or speakers), Alibaba’s glasses manage to retain AR display, AI vision capabilities, and audio — all within a streamlined form factor.

The device is expected to be officially unveiled on July 26 at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai.

According to recent news, Alibaba Group is set to unveil its self-developed AI/AR glasses, marking a potential "head start" ahead of Huawei, which had been expected to launch similar products between Q3 this year and Q1 next year.

The glasses are expected to offer a range of basic functions, such as voice assistant, music playback, phone calls, real-time translation, and meeting recordings. They will also integrate with Alibaba’s ecosystem, including functions for maps, payments, and shopping, with contributions from teams working on Amap, Alipay, and Taobao.

On the AI front, the glasses will leverage Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen model, while the Quark team will provide specialized models in areas like learning and health to enhance the product's intelligence.

In terms of hardware, these glasses are expected to surpass Ray-Ban Meta’s smart glasses. Two versions will be offered: one without a display and one with both AI and AR capabilities. The hardware will feature a dual-chip architecture, incorporating Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 and Bestechnic BES2800 chips.

Sources suggest this is the first AI product from Alibaba since it integrated its AI-to-consumer (AI to C) business at the end of last year, marking an extension of its AI-to-C strategy.

On July 21, the first AI-powered smart glasses developed in Wenzhou — the Looktech AI Glasses — officially rolled off the production line in Ouhai District. This milestone marks Wenzhou’s entry into the smart wearable sector and signifies a major step forward in the transformation of Ouhai’s traditional eyewear industry toward tech-driven innovation.

Developed jointly by Looktech and Wenzhou Ouhai Glasses Co., Ltd., the device integrates four key functions: eyewear, headphones, a high-resolution camera, and an AI assistant. Weighing only 34 grams, the glasses feature ultra-lightweight materials for both the frame and temples — comparable in weight to standard wide-rim glasses and currently among the lightest in their category.

The camera is equipped with a 13MP sensor, supporting 2K video recording and 4K photo capture, along with advanced features like electronic stabilization and horizon leveling — enabling users to shoot high-quality, stable content even in complex environments.
At the company’s cleanroom facility in Ouhai, precision components are assembled via standardized processes on an automated line capable of producing up to 70 units per hour, with an annual capacity of 150,000 units. A CNY 9 million export order is already in place, with shipments to North America scheduled to begin by the end of July — officially launching Ouhai’s smart glasses into global markets.

"Smart glasses are eyewear first," said Haoxiang Yi , CEO of Looktech. "In addition to powerful AI capabilities, they must be stylish and comfortable to wear. Looktech continues Ouhai’s legacy of craftsmanship — balancing technology with aesthetics and comfort. That’s why this partnership makes so much sense."
