One of the most overlooked forms of generational wealth?

Language.

As Karina Saucedo reflects on episode 721 of The Latina Mom Legacy.

"It's so powerful… being able to communicate with others and help them… and knowing my kids will be able to do that too.
That’s generational wealth—because it’s something they can never take away."

When you’re raising bilingual children, you’re not just teaching words, you’re giving them access, connection, and opportunity for life.

It started with simple things at home, hablando más español, and making it part of our everyday life.

Little by little...it adds up.

😃 Many parents worry their bilingual baby isn’t learning Spanish because they’re not speaking yet.

But language development starts long before words.

In the early years, babies are building the foundation through listening, recognizing patterns, and understanding meaning.

If you're raising a bilingual baby or toddler and want a clearer picture of what actually matters in the first three years, I created a free resource to help.

Sometimes the hardest part of raising bilingual children isn’t the language itself, It's...
..the consistency. 😊

When everyone around your child is speaking English…
When playdates happen in English…
When school happens in English…

It can feel easier to switch.
To go with the flow.

But every time you continue speaking Spanish, even when it feels inconvenient, you’re strengthening your child’s connection to the language.

Not through perfection.
But through presence.

In this week’s episode of The Latina Mom Legacy Podcast, I speak with Karina Saucedo from .casita about what it really looks like to reclaim your Spanish while raising bilingual kids.

🎧 Episode drops tomorrow.

Spanish was always part of everyday life for me growing up. ❤️ Two cultures. Two languages.

Not as a “strategy.”
Not as a milestone.
Just as part of home.

The cuentos we heard.
The tradiiciones we grew up with.
The way Spanish showed up in ordinary moments.

Years later, I realized how much those early experiences shape the way children relate to language.

Not just what they say,
but how they feel about it.

Tomorrow I’m sharing a simple guide about what actually matters in the first three years when raising a bilingual child.

Stay tuned. 💛

Most parents are watching for words. But in the first three years, words are the result, not the starting point.

Bilingual development doesn’t begin with fluency.

It begins with:

Consistency.
Connection.
Repetition.

Long before you hear clear Spanish words, your child is:

• Mapping sounds
• Recognizing patterns
• Building comprehension
• Forming emotional associations

If you focus on output too early, you’ll feel behind.
If you focus on foundation, you’ll feel confident.

On Friday, I’m sharing a simple guide that breaks this down by age (0–3) so you know exactly what to focus on at each stage.

Save this so you don’t measure the wrong milestone. 💛

If your baby isn’t saying clear Spanish words yet, that doesn’t mean Spanish isn’t working. Ten paciencia. 👇

Empowering Latina moms to raise bilingual children connected to their roots

Hola, I'm Janny Perez. After I had mija, Victoria in 2015, I wanted her to learn Spanish and grow up to be a proud Latina in a multicultural home.

I started Mi Legasi, my legacy, as a way to help other moms through my experiences raising a bilingual child and to share my talent as a 20 year product designer designing bilingual and bicultural products. Now Mi Legasi has expanded beyond products to blogs and now produces The Latina Mom Legacy podcast.

My goal is to help you Connect, Create, and Carry On your Latinx Heritage...so you can create your Legasi.
