"In ancient times, before the Spanish conquest, Bolívar Square was a meeting and trading place for the Muisca, with important access routes to the center of the country".
"In 1539, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada officially founded Santa Fe, and the area became the Plaza Mayor, the administrative and commercial center.
Here were held:
Daily markets, religious festivals, public executions, royal proclamations.
Around it were built:
The first church (which would later become the Primatial Cathedral).
The colonial town hall (the seed of the current Liévano Palace).
Government houses."
This is a bit of the history of the old Plaza de Bolívar after its transformation and making way for a new era. Plaza de Bolívar was built, and today the most important and impressive buildings in our country exist there, all concentrated in one place.
Primatial Cathedral.
National Capitol (seat of Congress).
Palace of Justice.
Liévano Palace (Bogotá City Hall).
Llorente Flower Vase House (Independence Museum).
Thanks to all these fundamental things in our country, all located in one place, we have the problem that every demonstration is concentrated there, and all political events and political demonstrations are centered there, creating chaos and disturbances for the city.
