Tonnara di Scopello — things you should know before visiting 🐟
One of Sicily’s most photographed spots and honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen on the island. But before you go, here are a few things that will help you plan your visit:

🎟️ Entry ticket 25€
The ticket includes access to the Tonnara, the museum, a sunbed, and the beach area.

📅 Book in advance
Tickets can be booked online up to 15 days ahead and often sell out quickly in summer. Same-day online booking isn’t possible, although limited walk-in tickets may be available.

🕐 Opening hours
Typically open daily from 10:30 AM. Closing times vary by season and there may be occasional early closures due to private events, so always check the official calendar before visiting.

🏖️ What to expect
Tonnara di Scopello is a historic tuna fishery that has been transformed into a boutique hotel. As a day visitor, you’ll have access to the iconic cove, crystal-clear water, and one of the most photographed views in Sicily.

🅿️ Parking tip
Use “Parcheggio Tonnara di Scopello,” which is the closest parking area. Avoid parking at Parcheggio Grande di Scopello unless you don’t mind a longer walk.

🥤 Facilities
There is a small shop selling drinks and snacks, but don’t expect full beach club facilities and there are no showers.

🚫 Drones are not allowed.

💭 Is it worth it?
It’s undeniably stunning and looks even better in person than in photos. However, between tickets and parking, a couple can easily spend around €70–€80 for a few hours here, so bear that in mind.
Am I happy I visited? Absolutely. However, I would return here only if I stayed at the hotel next time.

Save this for your Sicily trip ☀️

Sardinia — 10 places to visit (Part 2) 🇮🇹

Part 2 of my favorite places in Sardinia. This time I’m including a mix of famous spots and a few places that many visitors overlook when planning their trip.

📍Porto Istana
A beautiful white-sand beach with crystal-clear water and incredible views of Tavolara Island.

📍Pedra Longa
A dramatic limestone rock rising from the sea. One of the most iconic viewpoints on the east coast and the starting point of several coastal hikes. Bear in mind there’s no beach here. It’s a rocky cove.

📍Alghero
One of Sardinia’s most charming towns, known for its Catalan heritage, beautiful old town, and stunning sunsets.

📍Porto Rafael
A picturesque seaside village founded in the 1960s by Spanish nobleman Rafael Neville. Designed as an artistic retreat, it still feels wonderfully different from the rest of Costa Smeralda.eo.

📍Cala Mariolu
Often ranked among Italy’s most beautiful beaches, famous for its turquoise water and tiny white pebbles.

📍Spiaggia delle Vacche
A small hidden gem near San Teodoro, surrounded by granite rocks and crystal-clear water. It’s not easy to get here so bear that in mind.

📍Porto Giunco
One of southern Sardinia’s most famous beaches, known for its long stretch of white sand, shallow turquoise sea, and nearby flamingo lagoon.

📍Cagliari
Sardinia’s vibrant capital city, where historic streets, great restaurants, beaches, and local life come together.

📍Arzachena
A great base for exploring Costa Smeralda, with fascinating archaeological sites and an authentic Sardinian atmosphere. Check the Santa Lucia Staircase, historic granite stairway famous for its ever-changing street art installations

📍Spiaggia di Cea
Recognizable by its iconic red sea stacks rising from the water, and one of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast.

Cinque Terre — what to do & useful tips 🇮🇹

One of the most beautiful places in Italy, but also one of the easiest to do wrong. Here are my favorite things to do and a few tips that will make your visit much smoother especially if you’re doing a day trip.

🚆 Start from La Spezia
Book the Cinque Terre Card online before your trip to avoid queues. It includes unlimited train rides between the villages and access to hiking trails for a day.
💸 2026 prices: €22 / €29.50 / €35 depending on the season.

📍My favorite route for one day:
• Monterosso (morning)
• Vernazza (lunch)
• Manarola (afternoon)
• Riomaggiore (sunset)

This avoids the biggest crowds and keeps the day flowing naturally.

🏖️ Relax on Monterosso’s beach
The largest village and home to the best sandy beach in Cinque Terre.

🥾 Hike from Monterosso to Vernazza
Around 2 hours with incredible coastal views. If you’re only doing one hike, make it this one.

🍝 Have lunch in Vernazza
Arguably the most picturesque village, with a beautiful harbor and stunning viewpoints.

🍋 Stop for an aperitivo at Nessun Dorma
The most famous aperitivo spot in Manarola. Join the queue through their app — they don’t take reservations.

🚤 Take a boat tour
One of the best ways to appreciate the villages is from the water.

🌅 End the day in Riomaggiore
The best spot for sunset. Arrive early if you’re visiting in summer.

❤️ Walk Via dell’Amore
The famous coastal path between Riomaggiore and Manarola. Book a timed entry slot in advance during peak season.

🥪 Try Ligurian focaccia & pesto
Simple, local, and some of the best things you’ll eat all day.

⚡️ Extra tips:
• Stay in La Spezia for easier logistics and lower prices.
• Single train tickets cost €5–€10, so the day pass is usually worth it.
• Don’t try to see everything. Cinque Terre is best enjoyed slowly.

Sardinia — 10 places to visit (Part 1) 🇮🇹

After spending the past 6 summers exploring Sardinia, these are some places I think deserve a spot on your itinerary:

📍La Pelosa
Probably Sardinia’s most famous beach — shallow turquoise water and white sand that almost doesn’t look real.

📍Cala Brandinchi
Often called “Little Tahiti” thanks to its crystal-clear water and tropical feel.

📍Capriccioli
One of my favorite beaches in Costa Smeralda. Small coves, smooth granite rocks, and unbelievably clear water.

📍Bosa
A colorful little town on the west coast with pastel houses, a river running through it, and a much more local atmosphere.

📍San Pantaleo
A charming mountain village known for its artisan shops, galleries, and beautiful piazza surrounded by granite peaks. There is a also a popular market every Thurday morning during the summer.

📍Cala Goloritzé
One of the most iconic beaches in Sardinia. You can only reach it by hike or boat, but the scenery is unforgettable.

📍La Maddalena Archipelago
An archipelago of stunning islands with some of the clearest water you’ll ever see. Best explored by boat. I recommend for your trip!

📍Hotel Su Gologone
More than just a hotel — a beautiful Sardinian experience with traditional design, incredible food, and mountain surroundings in inland Sardinia.

📍Cala Corsara
Located on Spargi Island in the La Maddalena Archipelago. Known for its pink-toned sand and wild untouched nature.

📍Tavolara Island
A dramatic limestone island rising straight from the sea. Perfect for boat trips, snorkeling, and seafood lunches by the water.

Sardinia — things nobody tells you before going 🇮🇹

After spending my summers in Sardinia for the past 6 years, here are a few things I wish more people knew before visiting:

• Sardinia is MUCH bigger than people think
You cannot properly “see Sardinia” in 3–4 days. Distances are long and the island is huge. Ideally plan at least 10 days.

• You really need a car
Public transport exists, but it’s limited and not ideal for beach hopping or exploring smaller towns.

• It doesn’t feel like the rest of Italy
The culture, landscapes, and food feel very different from mainland Italy. Sardinia has its own identity.

• There’s a whole language here
Many locals speak Sardinian — a separate language with influences of Latin and Spanish.

• Timing matters
July and August are beautiful but crowded and expensive. June and September are the sweet spot. In May, some places may still be closed.

• Some beaches require booking
Especially in peak season. Places like La Pelosa have limited entry, online reservations, and entrance fees.

• The water is not always crystal clear
Wind changes everything. One day the sea is turquoise and calm, the next it can look cloudy with sea grass. Checking wind forecasts makes a huge difference.

• Costa Smeralda is only a tiny part of Sardinia
There’s so much more beyond the northeast coast — Alghero, Cagliari, the east coast, smaller villages, hidden beaches…

• Sardinia can get expensive in summer
Not just luxury hotels - restaurants and beach clubs also get pricey in July and August.

• Sardinian food is its own thing
Don’t expect only pizza or carbonara. Try local dishes like culurgiones, bottarga, and fregola.

This is Salalah 🇴🇲 — and it just got a whole lot easier to reach. /ad

Wadi Darbat. The Arabian Sea. That golden hour feeling you can’t quite put into words.

Salalah has been one of those destinations I always say everyone needs to experience - and now, there’s no excuse not to.

And if you haven’t been during Khareef season (June–September) - think misty green
mountains, dramatic waterfalls, and cool ocean air in the middle of summer - it is genuinely unlike anywhere else in the region.

Prossima fermata ➡️ Colosseo 🏟️

Getting out of the new Colosseo metro station is a real experience, and it’s also super interesting inside. It’s like a museum, displaying 2000-year-old Roman archaeological treasures found during excavations.

And it also took 12 years to build this station because the construction crews literally dug through the dense history buried directly beneath central Rome, and kept on finding ancient ruins and artefacts.

Best day trips from Nice by public transport 🇫🇷💙

I’ve explored the French Riviera both by car and by public transport, and honestly, both have their advantages. But if you can’t drive or simply don’t want to, this guide is for you.

Luckily, so many places on the Côte d’Azur are easily accessible by train or bus, making day trips from Nice super convenient.

📍Villefranche-sur-Mer
Take the train from Nice-Ville or Nice Riquier station — only 8 minutes away.

📍Menton
Train from Nice-Ville or Nice Riquier station (~37 minutes).

💡Tip: Villefranche + Menton work perfectly together in one day. Do Villefranche in the morning, then head to Menton for the afternoon and sunset.
Another great combo is Menton + Monte Carlo since they’re only ~20 minutes apart by train.

📍Èze Village
The easiest route is Bus 82 from Palais des Expositions or Bavastro. It drops you below the village, then it’s a short 9-minute walk up.
💸 One-way ticket: €1.70
Alternative: train to Èze station + Bus 83/Uber up to the village (less convenient from Nice).

📍Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
Take Bus 15 from Lycée Massena to Port de Saint-Jean.
For Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, get off at Passable/Rothschild.

📍Antibes
Train from Nice Saint-Augustin station (~15–20 min).
✨ Bonus: Cannes is only 10 minutes further on the same line.

📍Saint-Paul-de-Vence
If you have extra time, it’s worth it. Train to Cagnes-sur-Mer + Bus 655 (~1h total).

⚠️ One place I personally wouldn’t recommend as a day trip from Nice: Saint-Tropez. Summer traffic is intense and public transport takes around 3 hours. The ferry is the best option, it takes only 1hr but return tickets are around €80.
