Barbie needs no introduction. She has been a well-known figure in the toy industry since 1959. Recently the iconic doll has been a symbol of representation, diversity, and empowerment, showing young girls that they can be whoever they want to be.

But Mattel didn't always embrace diversity. This article examines the effects that the initial ""Perfect Barbie"" might have had on little girls before the birth of Barbie's rainbow nation.

"Trauma - a word we have become very familiar with these days. From the recent Ukrainian war and its many traumatized and displaced victims to an entire LGBTQ+ community as well as people of color who have historically suffered the effects of severe prejudice. Emotional trauma, which manifests as physical illness as the body internalizes grief as a self-preservation tactic, is often long-lasting and has far-reaching consequences for victims. Not only do these victims suffer physical effects, but the psychological effects can negatively impact their relationships with family members, friends, employers, and co-workers. Trauma creates a vicious cycle that often makes it very difficult for victims to build close relationships necessary for healing and support.”

The ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet.

The phaseout of controlled uses of ozone-depleting substances and the related reductions have not only helped protect the ozone layer for this and future generations but have also contributed significantly to global efforts to address climate change; furthermore, it has protected human health and ecosystems by limiting the harmful ultraviolet radiation from reaching the Earth.
