Sometimes I’m sad that someone like Julani is effectively representing Syria. Other times I say: this is what many people supported, this is the level they accepted.
For years, they said Jabhat al-Nusra was a “construct of the regime,” that the state was bombing its own neighborhoods just to paint the opposition as terrorists. Then when that same figure rose to power, they suddenly called him a “rebel” and celebrated.
You can generalize this mindset to millions. Deny reality long enough, and you end up ruled by the very monster you claimed was fake.
What do you think: is this hypocrisy, brainwashing, or just political convenience?
