Dub Mash Episode 59: Night Train to Oulu (Part 2) is available now on Mixcloud and Archive.org. And soon also on the currently being re-made dubflash.com website.

This episode is a spontaneous live mix I did on my work laptop during a night train ride from Helsinki to Oulu. I only had the free software "Mixxer" available, headphones, and a mouse.

I never used the software before and was learning while recording.

Overall, I think that this turned out pretty nicely, given the circumstances.

Part 1 was uploaded about a week ago, and so far got 0 listens on Mixcloud and Archive together. Thanks for the encouragement. You guys are the best.

Last year, I created the Dubbook, an alternative social media platform. Never heard of it? Oh well. 🤷 Anyway. So that all my work back then wasn't completely in vain, I'm using the Dubbook's backend now for the Dub Flash website.

I like the idea of going back to an internet 1.0 design and general approach, but with some conveniences from internet 2.0. Basically, what I envisioned in 1998, but what wasn't possible back then. Now it is. "28 years later." Hmm. That sounds like a good movie title. 🤭

The new version of the Dub Flash website looks like from 2000, but it is build on a modern, secure framework which offers interactivity features to what otherwise is simply a representational label's website. Yes, that means that this is NOT a relaunch of the original "Dub Information Portal". It's just about Dub Flash Records.

You can read about, watch, listen, download/buy the releases, listen to the radio show "Dub Mash", watch the photo gallery, learn about upcoming and old events, read interesting wikipedia articles about Dub Flash related artists, happenings and whatnot - from my personal perspective.

And not just that. You can like and comment every single post, message with other fans or me. Or discuss with other in a simple old-school forum, like way back in the days. You can even sign up for a retro 90s style e-mail newsletter.

You can consume everything passively just by visiting the site. Everything is readable publicly. Or you can create a Dub Flash account and actively participate. Honestly, if you e.g. like DFR002, I would be thrilled if you give it a "like" on my website. Or write a short review. I promise that I will only delete reviews I don't like. 😅

I just finished the backend and frontend work, and started adding content. So far there are only two releases, but soon there will be all 46, or whatever the current number is. And the 59 radio shows. And live gig recordings. Never-seen-before-photos and videos. And whatnot. All exclusively on dubflash.com.

I don't know if anyone cares for any of it. But it's my place to write my own history. My own, cosy online home. 😍

Dub Flash was quiet again for a couple of months. My apologies. As usual, the reason was that real life interfered with the adventure. And quite bad this time.

Good news nonetheless: The father of this guy here finally made some progress and is at least out of the hospital.

The brother of this guy here finally sees some light at the end of his financial troubles.

And this guy himself found himself, once again, a new job. But it meant having to leave Helsinki.

Dub Flash Records' new headquarters are now located in Oulu, Northern Finland, aka the European Capital of Culture 2026.

Dub Flash Presents: "Mad Dubness S01E01: One Dub Ahead" (DFR043)

"Mad Dubness" is an ongoing dubwise series by the Madness tribute band Dubness which creates their own interpretations of legendary Madness tunes. The series is presented in episodic and/or seasonal form.

Previously only played live, the first episode has been recorded now: "One Dub Ahead", a unique take on the 1979 hit "One Step Beyond". Originally a ska tune with saxophone lead, it's now a dub stepper with flute lead. The song comes in three versions, short, crispy, and on point. Enjoy this madness.

At least 3 famous dub artists are visible on this picture partying to a Dub Flash tune on an outdoors soundsystem session.

However, the more interesting story is the guy on the left. For several years during the very early Dub Flash years we had a close connection, writing a lot of e-mails back and forth, meeting on sessions in Berlin, seeming to have similar opinions about dub music.

Then at some point, around 2002 or so, he stopped communicating with me from one day to the other. Never found out why. Did something happen? Did I annoy him somehow? Did he die? What was going on? I eventually accepted it.

Then suddenly, in 2010, he is being photographed dancing on a Dub Flash session. Never said a word. Never showed any sign of remembrance. Where was he during the 8 previous years? What happened? Why did he come to my show? My head canon is that he had a severe car accident, lost his memory, and on top of that his laptop with all accounts and passwords on it was stolen, so he never remembered that we were friends once. 😨 But he nonetheless eventually found out how great Dub Flash is and decided to go to a session. 😁

Is anyone reading this? 🤷

After over a decade with the last design (moving starfield background), I remade the Dub Flash website. Aside from a more modern layout, I streamlined all the available information to make it match with other platforms. There is also more interconnectivity with other platforms, e.g. I made new Youtube playlists and embedded them into the site. Together with a Bandcamp widget, you can listen to all Dub Flash songs directly from the website without facing ads or suggested content.
