SEATTLE — A 26-year-old man, Elisio Melendez, has been charged with second-degree attempted mur*er after allegedly shoving a stranger toward an oncoming Sound Transit light rail train at Northgate station on March 19.

Surveillance video shows Melendez waiting behind the victim on the platform, then pushing him twice as the train approached. The victim stumbled but regained his balance and avoided falling onto the tracks.

Melendez was arrested at a nearby behavioral health facility.
Bail was set at $750,000. Court records show Melendez was previously charged with second-degree assault in 2019 after stabbing his sister.
