It’s been 5 years since DJ-Kicks: and it still goes as hard as ever.

Avalon’s selections reflect a deep knowledge of house, techno, new wave, EBM and rave as well as the experience of an adaptable selector. Her style transcends the confines of time or genre by recontextualizing dance music from previous eras among contemporary sounds and her own productions and edits.

“I wanted it to be representative of how I sound in the club while incorporating new original music,“ Emerson says. “I thought of it as a good opportunity to summarize the last few years of DJing for me and share my original productions, covers and remixes.”

We’ll be revisiting this gem today, if you’ve got the time, you should too.

Thirty years after its initial release and newly-remastered, Mish Mash is available online for the first time.

The title Mish Mash came early on in the process as they had already decided to showcase a whole raft of different styles which were only united by their diversity, spanning Drum & bass, techno, deep house, hip hop, funk, beats, incidental music, cop themes, and end titles – all were grist to their creative mill at that time.

The intention was to create 74 minutes of music – the optimum amount for a CD, which spanned six sides of vinyl.

In many ways a time capsule, the album is somehow still pushing boundaries to this day.

Crafted with the Roland System-1 and punchy upfront drums, the track builds a spacious atmosphere that resonates equally well in vast venues as in intimate club settings."

The downtempo legacy of Tosca continues. Originally released in 2005, J.A.C. is the fourth studio album by the Austrian duo - an album dedicated to their then newly born sons, “Joshua, Arthur, Conrad”.

For its 20th anniversary, which also marks !K7’s 40th anniversary, it has been fully remastered and compiled into a beautiful gatefold 2LP.

Between the release of their classic Dehli 9 and J.A.C., the two entered fatherhood.

As all Tosca albums relate to biographic events in the life of Huber and Dorfmeister, the birth of their sons naturally called for an album dedication.

J.A.C. is perhaps the most consistent formulation of both, the carefree and melancholic sound of Tosca. The melodies quicken, the grooves are funky and laidback and the variety of musical styles are marked by a wide choice. Additionally, from 2003 onwards, Tosca became a full band, with live debuts by the side of the likes of Earl Zinger, MC Farda P (Rockers Hi-Fi) and Graf Hadik.

It’s this new found live experience and the increased interest in the digitally untouched sound of real instruments that marks the character of this landmark Tosca album the most, besides the characteristic Tosca mood.

DJ-Kicks: Modeselektor coming September 12th

Alongside the first single ‘MEGA MEGA MEGA’, Modeselektor have applied their decades of experience, curative abilities, and creative talent to a mix that checks off an essential box on their career bucket list.

“We decided not to overthink it too much,” said Bronsert of the curation phase, “and just followed our instincts.” At the same time, Szary added, “When you ask Modeselektor to make a mix, it’s not a normal process.”

The beauty is in the lining—in listening to the mix again and again, and uncovering fresh details and earworms each time. Despite its modern bent, it has an everlasting quality, much like Modeselektor and DJ-Kicks themselves.

Launching in 1995 with C.J. Bolland’s seminal mix, DJ-Kicks has become a global benchmark for DJing as an art form. Over 85 editions, legends like Carl Craig, Four Tet, Hot Chip, Nina Kraviz, Moodymann, Kemistry and Storm, and Peggy Gou have shaped its legacy.

More than just a mix series, DJ-Kicks has cultivated a devoted fan base, introduced groundbreaking artists to new audiences, and showcased electronic music’s evolution and cultural impact over three decades.

On the fortieth anniversary of our label, !K7 Records curates a night combining some of the our favourite DJ’s and selectors - each with their own unique take on a craft built on keeping the energy resounding around the dance floor. DJ-Kicks: Jayda G is getting the reissue treatment it deserves.

For our 40th anniversary, we've been bringing back some fan favorites that too many folks couldn't get their hands on in time.

Each selection, Guy explains, is attached to a memory – whether it’s starting her career in Vancouver’s nascent electronic scene, her time DJing in Berlin or reconnecting with friends from home. “I really wanted to involve friends who I've had shared experiences with. The people included are people I've shared trips with, had late night DJ sessions with or made music with. They’ve been really formative in my artistry.”

Listening to the mix evokes a feeling of familiarity, like revisiting memories on dancefloors past or texts of encouragement from an old friend. A testament to positivity, a work that chooses joy.

Channels: Remixed is coming September 4th

Starting with ‘Spring (Club Mix)’, the London-based electronic duo deliver a complete reimagination of eight tracks from the original record, revisited, deconstructed, and reassembled entirely by Warren Cummings and Joe Danvers-McCabe.

Eight out of the original twelve tracks have been reinterpreted and designed for the club, exchanging some of the original album’s softness with skillfully crafted propulsive drums, searing basslines, chopped vocals and electro-heavy synth work.
