We're thrilled to see this important new book The Nightmare Sequence (UQP), a collaboration between 12PP author Safdar Ahmed and poet Omar Sakr.

Safdar writes: "It’s our attempt to creatively respond to Israel’s genocide in Gaza, to consider what it means to be a witness whose own government materially supports and then denies said genocide, and to push back against Zionist narratives which would erase Palestinians from public life and discourse."

Safdar and Omar are donating all author royalties to Palestinian relief.

Safdar's original graphic novel Still Alive: Notes from Australia's Immigration Detention System is available for purchase directly from us, or order it at your favourite local bookstore.

Congratulations to 12PP author Safdar Ahmed who has received a Creative Australia grant to make a new graphic novel next year!

Safdar says: " 'The Crooked Timber’ (working title) will critically tackle our understanding of human rights. It’s still in the research phase but I want it to address the Gaza genocide, the processes of dehumanisation which enables such things (the racism, monsterisation and breathless discourses about ‘terrorism’), the use of torture, the rights of children, the need to decolonise our thinking about who deserves and doesn’t deserve rights, the importance of intersectionality, the beyond-human rights of other species and our planet, amongst other things.

Graphic novels really are the most labour-intensive and difficult things to make so from here I’ll glue my ass to the chair and you won’t hear about this for a while or at least until it’s more developed. ❤️"
