Vorab Danke fürs Bemustern an Crawling Chaos , lasset das Schreiben beginnen.

Das echte Leben schreibt eben doch die besten Drehbücher:
From the Vastland ist wahrscheinlich eine der faszinierendsten Bands, die die moderne Black-Metal-Szene zu bieten hat.
Gegründet wurde das Projekt Ende 2010 im Iran von Multiinstrumentalist und Kopf der Band, Sina (Sina Winter).

Extreme Musik wie Black Metal ist dort strengstens verboten und schlichtweg lebensgefährlich, weshalb Sina seine ersten Tracks heimlich im Untergrund aufnahm.
Ein echter Wendepunkt war die Dokumentation Blackhearts, die Sina bei seiner Reise zum Inferno Metal Festival nach Norwegen begleitete.

Sina erhielt Asyl in Norwegen, zog nach Trondheim und konnte die Band dort endlich unter sicheren Bedingungen aufziehen.
Musikalisch servieren From the Vastland eiskalten, rasend schnellen Second Wave Norwegian Black Metal – mit scharfen Riffs, kompromisslosen Blastbeats und düster-aggressivem Gesang.

Das Besondere liegt jedoch in der Thematik:
Statt nordischer Mythologie oder Standard-Satanismus verwebt Sina seine Texte mit persischen Legenden, antiken Dämonen und den Mythen seiner alten Heimat.

Im Studio fungiert From the Vastland zwar weiterhin als Sinas Soloprojekt, live und für Aufnahmen holt er sich aber regelmäßig Hochkaräter der norwegischen Szene an die Seite (unter anderem Musiker von Keep of Kalessin, 1349 oder Gorgoroth).

Genau dieser Mix aus kaltem norwegischen Sound und orientalisch angehauchter Düsternis macht den Reiz der Band aus – und die neue Scheibe Servant of Ahriman bildet da keine Ausnahme.
Musiktechnisch ist der neue Longplayer ein absoluter Brecher.

Als großer Befürworter der klassischen Second Wave of Black Metal holt mich Sina hier voll ab.
Das Tempo zieht über die Spielzeit ordentlich an, ohne dass es übertrieben wirkt.

Immer wieder gibt es Momente, die bewusst entschleunigen – wie etwa der Einstieg in den Titeltrack mit orientalischen Instrumenten.
Das passt wie die Faust aufs Auge, bevor im nächsten Moment die musikalische Apokalypse losbricht.

Ob eiskalte Gitarren, wummernde Bässe oder treibende Drums: From the Vastland zelebrieren modernen, orientalischen True Norwegian Black Metal auf höchstem Niveau.

Für mich definitiv ein Highlight, das nach mehr schreit. Wer Bock auf kompromisslosen Black Metal mit einzigartiger Note hat, sollte hier unbedingt ein Ohr riskieren!

Først og fremst takk til Crawling Chaos Records for anmeldelseseksemplaret – la skrivingen begynne.

Det virkelige livet skriver tross alt de beste manusene:
From the Vastland er sannsynligvis et av de mest fascinerende bandene den moderne black metal-scenen har å by på.
Prosjektet ble grunnlagt i slutten av 2010 i Iran av multiinstrumentalisten og bandlederen Sina (Sina Winter).

Ekstrem musikk som black metal er strengt forbudt der og rett og slett livsfarlig, og derfor spilte Sina inn sine første låter i hemmelighet i undergrunnen.
Et virkelig vendepunkt var dokumentaren «Blackhearts», som fulgte Sina på hans reise til Inferno Metal Festival i Norge.

Sina fikk asyl i Norge, flyttet til Trondheim og kunne endelig starte opp bandet der under trygge forhold.
Musikalsk serverer From the Vastland iskald, rasende rask «Second Wave Norwegian Black Metal» – med skarpe riff, kompromissløse blastbeats og mørk, aggressiv vokal.

Det spesielle ligger imidlertid i tematikken:
I stedet for nordisk mytologi eller standard satanisme fletter Sina tekstene sine sammen med persiske legender, antikke demoner og mytene fra sitt gamle hjemland.

I studio fungerer From the Vastland fortsatt som Sinas soloprosjekt, men live og på innspillinger henter han jevnlig inn toppmusikere fra den norske scenen (blant annet musikere fra Keep of Kalessin, 1349 og Gorgoroth).

Det er nettopp denne blandingen av kald norsk lyd og orientalsk-inspirert mørke som utgjør bandets sjarm – og den nye platen *Servant of Ahriman* er intet unntak.
Musikalsk sett er den nye LP-en en absolutt knaller.

Som stor tilhenger av den klassiske Second Wave of Black Metal fenger Sina meg fullstendig her.
Tempoet øker jevnt og trutt gjennom hele albumet, uten at det virker overdrevet.

Gang på gang er det øyeblikk som bevisst senker tempoet – som for eksempel innledningen til tittelsporet med orientalske instrumenter.
Det passer som hånd i hanske, før den musikalske apokalypsen bryter løs i neste øyeblikk.

Enten det er iskalde gitarer, dundrende basser eller drivende trommer: From the Vastland feirer moderne, orientalsk «True Norwegian Black Metal» på høyeste nivå.

For meg er dette definitivt et høydepunkt som roper etter mer. Den som har lyst på kompromissløs black metal med et unikt preg, bør absolutt gi dette en sjanse!

First off, thanks to Crawling Chaos Records for the review copy—let the writing begin.

Real life really does write the best scripts:
From the Vastland is probably one of the most fascinating bands the modern black metal scene has to offer.
The project was founded in late 2010 in Iran by multi-instrumentalist and band leader Sina (Sina Winter).

Extreme music like black metal is strictly forbidden there and downright life-threatening, which is why Sina secretly recorded his first tracks underground.
A real turning point was the documentary *Blackhearts*, which followed Sina on his journey to the Inferno Metal Festival in Norway.

Sina was granted asylum in Norway, moved to Trondheim, and was finally able to form the band there under safe conditions.
Musically, From the Vastland delivers ice-cold, breakneck-fast second-wave Norwegian black metal—with sharp riffs, uncompromising blast beats, and dark, aggressive vocals.

What sets them apart, however, is their subject matter:
Instead of Norse mythology or standard Satanism, Sina weaves his lyrics with Persian legends, ancient demons, and the myths of his former homeland.

In the studio, From the Vastland continues to function as Sina’s solo project, but for live performances and recordings, he regularly enlists top-tier musicians from the Norwegian scene (including members of Keep of Kalessin, 1349, and Gorgoroth).

It is precisely this blend of cold Norwegian sound and Oriental-tinged darkness that makes the band so compelling—and the new album *Servant of Ahriman* is no exception.
Musically, the new album is an absolute knockout.

As a huge fan of the classic Second Wave of Black Metal, Sina really has me hooked here.
The tempo picks up nicely over the course of the album without ever feeling overdone.

Time and again, there are moments that deliberately slow things down—such as the intro to the title track with its oriental instruments.
It fits like a glove, before the musical apocalypse breaks out the very next moment.

Whether it’s ice-cold guitars, rumbling bass, or driving drums: From the Vastland celebrate modern, oriental True Norwegian Black Metal at the highest level.

For me, this is definitely a highlight that leaves you craving more. If you’re in the mood for uncompromising black metal with a unique twist, you should definitely give this a listen!

Nocturnis - Drangsal

Gegründet 2019 im baden-württembergischen Offenburg um Gitarrist Lukas Wenzel, Bassist Dirk Schoening, Sänger Raphael Matzat und Schlagzeuger Christian Burg, steht Nocturnis für modernen Black Metal, der rohe Energie mit tiefsinniger Atmosphäre verbindet.

Mit dem Einstieg von Vincent Padrutt als zweitem Gitarristen im Frühjahr 2019 komplettierte sich die Gitarrenfront, woraufhin die Band ihren Sound konsequent schärfte.

Die Formation versteht es seither, die kompromisslose Kälte des klassischen Black Metal mit melancholischen Melodielinien und Post-Metal-Einflüssen zu verweben.

Schon kurz nach der Bandwerdung machte die Truppe mit ihrer Debüt-EP Aporia (2020) auf sich aufmerksam und setzte ein erstes starkes Ausrufezeichen in der deutschen Extreme-Metal-Szene.

Der endgültige Durchbruch folgte schließlich Ende 2022 mit dem ersten vollwertigen Album Unsegen, das über Black Sunset / MDD Records erschien.

Das Konzeptwerk widmet sich inneren Seelenqualen, menschlicher Ausweglosigkeit und düsteren Schicksalen – eindrucksvoll untermalt durch rasiermesserscharfe Tremolo-Riffs, wuchtige Blastbeats und emotionalen Gesang.

Musikalisch bewegen sich Nocturnis in einer mitreißenden Dynamik, die Vergleiche mit Bands wie Der Weg einer Freiheit, Karg oder Imperium Dekadenz nahelegt, ohne dass die Fünf ihre eigene Identität einbüßen.

Nach einer personellen Zäsur im Jahr 2024, bei der Sänger Raphael Matzat und Drummer Christian Burg die Band verließen, läutete die Gruppe das nächste Kapitel ihrer Geschichte ein.

Die aktuelle Besetzung formiert sich um die Gründungsmitglieder Lukas Wenzel (Gitarre) und Dirk Schoening (Bass) sowie Vincent Padrutt an der zweiten Gitarre. Komplettiert wird das Line-up durch die Neuzugänge Matthias Störck, der fortan das Mikrofon übernimmt, und Jonas Feger hinter dem Schlagzeug.

In dieser frischen Aufstellung führen Nocturnis ihren Weg fort und bringen ihre düstere, mitreißende Intensität wieder mit voller Kraft auf die Bühne.
Mit Drangsal steht im November das neue Album in den Startlöchern – und ich habe mir das Werk vorab schon einmal zu Gemüte geführt.

Der Einstieg fällt recht ruhig und atmosphärisch aus.
Sollte das restliche Album in dieselbe Richtung gehen, lässt sich schon nach den ersten Tönen erahnen, was für ein starkes Scheibchen hier wartet.

„Aber du hast es doch schon durchgehört, du musst doch wissen, wie es ist!“ – Ja: Es ist ein verdammt gutes Album geworden.

Atmosphärischer Black Metal mit starken Melodien, überwiegend im Midtempo-Bereich gehalten:
Drangsal ist keine durchschnittliche Standardkost, sondern ein Werk mit enormem Wiederhör- und Wiedererkennungswert.

Fangen wir bei den Instrumenten an – denn wie man weiß, steht und fällt damit die komplette Atmosphäre.

Die Drums liefern ein grundsolides, starkes Fundament, das den Takt stets straight vorgibt und die Stimmung durch gezielte Tempowechsel maßgeblich mitaufbaut.

Die Saitenfraktion zeigt sich ebenfalls bestens aufgelegt: Messerscharfe Riffs paaren sich mit großen, aber nie überladenen Melodien, was für den Hörer extrem eingängig wirkt. Der Bass dröhnt dazu angenehm präsent durch die Boxen, womit das Gesamtbild der Saiten-Fraktion vollends überzeugt.

Kommen wir zum Gesang – dem Ausdruck der Geschichten, die Nocturnis auf Drangsal erzählen wollen.
Die Vocals kommen aggressiv rüber und erinnern an den klassischen 90er-Jahre-Black-Metal, bleiben dabei aber erfreulich gut verständlich.

Neuzugang Matthias weiß glücklicherweise genau, wie er seine Stimme einsetzen muss, um nicht monoton oder langweilig zu wirken.

Unterm Strich ein rundum gelungenes Album!

Nocturnis - Drangsal

Formed in 2019 in Offenburg, Baden-Württemberg, around guitarist Lukas Wenzel, bassist Dirk Schoening, vocalist Raphael Matzat, and drummer Christian Burg, Nocturnis is known for modern black metal that combines raw energy with a profound atmosphere.

With the addition of Vincent Padrutt as the second guitarist in the spring of 2019, the guitar lineup was complete, after which the band consistently refined its sound.

Since then, the band has mastered the art of weaving the uncompromising coldness of classic black metal with melancholic melodies and post-metal influences.

Shortly after forming, the band drew attention with their debut EP *Aporia* (2020) and made a strong first impression on the German extreme metal scene.

Their definitive breakthrough finally came in late 2022 with their first full-length album, *Unsegen*, released via Black Sunset / MDD Records.

This concept album explores inner torment, human despair, and grim fates—impressively underscored by razor-sharp tremolo riffs, powerful blast beats, and emotional vocals.

Musically, Nocturnis operate with a rousing dynamism that invites comparisons to bands like Der Weg einer Freiheit, Karg, or Imperium Dekadenz, without the five members losing their own identity.

Following a lineup change in 2024, when singer Raphael Matzat and drummer Christian Burg left the band, the group ushered in the next chapter of its history.

The current lineup centers around founding members Lukas Wenzel (guitar) and Dirk Schoening (bass), along with Vincent Padrutt on second guitar. The lineup is rounded out by newcomers Matthias Störck, who now takes over on vocals, and Jonas Feger on drums.

With this fresh lineup, Nocturnis continues on its path, bringing its dark, captivating intensity back to the stage with full force.
Their new album, *Drangsal*, is set for release in November—and I’ve already had a chance to listen to it in advance.

The opening track is quite calm and atmospheric.
If the rest of the album follows the same direction, you can already tell from the very first notes what a strong little album this is going to be.

“But you’ve already listened to the whole thing—you must know what it’s like!”—Yes: It’s turned out to be a damn good album.

Atmospheric black metal with strong melodies, mostly in the mid-tempo range:
*Drangsal* isn’t run-of-the-mill fare, but a work with enormous replay value and instant recognizability.

Let’s start with the instruments—because, as we all know, the entire atmosphere stands or falls on them.

The drums provide a rock-solid, strong foundation that consistently keeps the beat straight and plays a key role in building the mood through strategic tempo changes.

The string section is also in top form: razor-sharp riffs pair with grand yet never overloaded melodies, creating an extremely catchy sound for the listener. The bass booms pleasantly through the speakers, rounding out the string section’s performance perfectly.

Let’s move on to the vocals—the expression of the stories Nocturnis seeks to tell on *Drangsal*.
The vocals come across as aggressive and are reminiscent of classic ’90s black metal, yet remain pleasantly clear and intelligible.

Fortunately, newcomer Matthias knows exactly how to use his voice to avoid sounding monotonous or boring.

All in all, a thoroughly successful album!

Einvigi - Latent
(Finnisch & Englisch below)

Wer bei atmosphärischem Post-Black Metal oder Blackgaze direkt den Blick gen nordischen Underground richtet, landet wahrscheinlich extrem schnell bei Einvigi – allerdings nicht in Norwegen, woran die meisten bei Black Metal wohl zuerst denken, sondern bei ihren Nachbarn in Finnland!

Das Quintett gehört zu den absoluten Geheimtipps der finnischen Szene, wenn du Bock auf die perfekte Mischung aus Kälte, Naturromantik und Melancholie hast.

Die Bandgeschichte nahm 2014 im finnischen Turku ihren Anfang. Kopf und Gründer Petteri Granberg hatte von Beginn an ein klares Ziel vor Augen:
Er wollte die Mystik der finnischen Natur und Folklore mit wuchtigen Metal-Riffs und melancholischen Rock-Melodien verweben.

Nach einer ersten Demo-EP (2017) legten die Jungs 2020 mit ihrem Debütalbum Sielulintu richtig los. Seitdem geht es stetig bergauf – unter anderem mit den Werken Yö kulje kanssani (2022) und dem 2024 veröffentlichten Monokroma.

Einvigi als reinen Black Metal abzustempeln, greift dabei deutlich zu kurz.
Die Truppe bewegt sich treffsicher im Feld des Post-Black Metal und Blackgaze (Fans von Alcest oder Harakiri for the Sky wissen sofort Bescheid).

Typisches Blastbeat-Geprügel und keifende Shouts wechseln sich mühelos ab mit verträumten Shoegaze-Gitarren, traurigen Melodien und klarem Gesang.

Dank ihrer Wurzeln blitzen zudem immer wieder subtile Melodic-Death-Einflüsse durch, die den Songs ordentlich Dynamik verleihen.

Thematisch dreht sich fast alles um Naturphänomene, Träume, innere Einkehr und nordische Mythen – komplett auf Finnisch gesungen, was der Atmosphäre das i-Tüpfelchen aufsetzt.

Auch personell zeigt sich die Truppe extrem eingespielt: Neben Petteri Granberg (Gitarre & Klargesang) teilen sich Joonas Koppanen (Bass & Harsh Vocals) und Krister Virtanen (Gitarre) die Saitenfront, während Drummer Mikael Ruoho hinter den Kesseln für den nötigen Druck sorgt.

So viel zur Vorgeschichte – denn mit Latent steht nun das neue Album in den Startlöchern, zu dem ich meine Eindrücke mit euch teilen möchte.

Die Platte startet noch recht entspannt, baut dann aber zügig eine ganz eigene Dynamik auf, die mich schnell gecatcht hat.

Meine Eingangsbehauptung – „perfekte Mischung aus Kälte, Naturromantik und Melancholie“ – kann ich für diese Scheibe wirklich bedenkenlos unterschreiben.

Gerade das macht dieses Album so besonders.
Auch den Vergleich zu Referenzen wie Alcest oder Harakiri for the Sky finde ich extrem passend:
Ob bei der eleganten Melodieführung oder den gezielten Wutausbrüchen, das Niveau stimmt einfach.

Es ist ungemein angenehm, dass man hier nicht die vollen 42 Minuten am Stück zugeballert wird.
Die Band gibt dem Hörer immer wieder Raum zum Durchatmen und Sammeln, bevor das Tempo anzieht und es gewaltig kracht.

Latent lebt nicht von reinen Extremen, sondern nutzt sie clever als Stilmittel. Das Fundament ist eine dichte Atmosphäre, deren regelmäßig auftretende Hassausbrüche das Gesamterlebnis umso intensiver machen.

Instrumental agieren Einvigi auf absolutem Top-Niveau:
Die Gitarren erzeugen sowohl eisig klirrende Riffs als auch warme Naturromantik, das Schlagzeug balanciert perfekt zwischen Raserei und ruhigen Rhythmen, und das Gesangs-Duo aus Petteri und Joonas verleiht dem Ganzen den letzten Schliff, um komplett in eine eigene Welt abzudriften.

Einvigi liefern mit Latent eine absolute Empfehlung ab – ohne Wenn und Aber.

Jos etsit tunnelmallista post-black metalia tai blackgaze-musiikkia ja suuntaat katseesi suoraan pohjoismaiseen underground-skeneen, päädyt todennäköisesti erittäin nopeasti Einvigin luo – m***a et Norjaan, johon useimmat black metal -fanit luultavasti ensiksi ajattelevat, vaan heidän naapureihinsa Suomeen!

Tämä viisikko kuuluu suomalaisen skenen ehdottomimpiin salaisiin vinkkeihin, jos kaipaat täydellistä sekoitusta kylmyyttä, luonnonromantiikkaa ja melankoliaa.

Yhtyeen historia alkoi vuonna 2014 Turussa. Yhtyeen keulahahmo ja perustaja Petteri Granbergilla oli alusta asti selkeä tavoite:
hän halusi kutoa yhteen suomalaisen luonnon ja kansanperinteen mystiikan voimakkaiden metalliriffien ja melankolisten rock-melodioiden kanssa.

Ensimmäisen demo-EP:n (2017) jälkeen pojat pääsivät kunnolla vauhtiin vuonna 2020 debyyttialbumillaan ”Sielulintu”. Siitä lähtien menestys on kasvanut tasaisesti – muun muassa albumeilla ”Yö kulje kanssani” (2022) ja vuonna 2024 julkaistulla ”Monokroma”.

Einvigin leimaaminen puhtaaksi black metal -yhtyeeksi on selvästi liian suppea määritelmä.
Yhtye liikkuu varmalla otteella post-black metalin ja blackgazen kentällä (Alcestin tai Harakiri for the Sky -fanit tietävät heti, mistä on kyse).

Tyypilliset blastbeat-ryöpsähdykset ja kirkuvat huudot vuorottelevat vaivattomasti unenomaisten shoegaze-kitaroiden, surullisten melodioiden ja selkeän laulun kanssa.

Juurensa ansiosta kappaleissa välähtää myös toistuvasti hienovaraisia melodic death -vaikutteita, jotka tuovat kappaleisiin kunnon dynamiikkaa.

Teemallisesti lähes kaikki pyörii luonnonilmiöiden, unien, itsetutkiskelun ja pohjoismaisten myyttien ympärillä – ja lauletaan kokonaan suomeksi, mikä kruunaa tunnelman.

Myös kokoonpanoltaan yhtye on erittäin hiottu: Petteri Granbergin (kitara & puhdas laulu) lisäksi Joonas Koppanen (basso & karhea laulu) ja Krister Virtanen (kitara) jakavat kitaristiroolin, kun taas rumpali Mikael Ruoho huolehtii tarvittavasta voimasta rumpusetin takana.

Tämä oli taustatietoa – sillä uusi albumi ”Latent” on nyt valmis julkaistavaksi, ja haluan jakaa teille vaikutelmani siitä.

Levy alkaa vielä melko rennosti, m***a rakentaa sitten nopeasti aivan omanlaisen dynamiikkansa, joka veti minut heti mukaansa.

Voin todellakin varauksetta allekirjoittaa alkuperäisen väitteeni – ”täydellinen sekoitus kylmyyttä, luonnonromantiikkaa ja melankoliaa” – tämän levyn osalta.

Juuri se tekee tästä albumista niin erityisen.
Myös vertailu bändeihin kuten Alcest tai Harakiri for the Sky on mielestäni erittäin osuva:
Olipa kyseessä sitten elegantti melodia tai tarkoitukselliset raivokohtaukset – taso on yksinkertaisesti kohdallaan.

On erittäin miellyttävää, ettei kuuntelijalle heitetä koko 42 minuuttia kerralla niskaan.
Yhtye antaa kuulijalle toistuvasti tilaa hengähtää ja kerätä voimia, ennen kuin tempo kiihtyy ja räjähtää mahtavasti.

Latent ei elä pelkistä äärimmäisyyksistä, vaan käyttää niitä taitavasti tyylikeinoina. Perustana on tiheä ilmapiiri, jonka säännöllisesti esiintyvät vihanpurkaukset tekevät kokonaiskokemuksesta sitäkin intensiivisemmän.

Instrumentaalisti Einvigi on ehdottomasti huipputasolla:
kitarat tuottavat sekä jäisiä, kiliseviä riffejä että lämpimää luonnonromantiikkaa, rummut tasapainoilevat täydellisesti raivon ja rauhallisten rytmien välillä, ja Petterin ja Joonaksen lauluduo antaa kokonaisuudelle viimeisen silauksen, jotta voi uppoutua täysin omaan maailmaansa.

Anyone who turns their attention to the Nordic underground when thinking of atmospheric post-black metal or blackgaze will likely stumble upon Einvigi very quickly—though not in Norway, which is probably the first place most people think of when it comes to black metal, but rather among their neighbors in Finland!

The quintet is one of the Finnish scene’s absolute hidden gems if you’re in the mood for the perfect blend of coldness, nature-inspired romanticism, and melancholy.

The band’s story began in 2014 in Turku, Finland. Frontman and founder Petteri Granberg had a clear goal in mind from the very beginning:
He wanted to weave the mystique of Finnish nature and folklore with powerful metal riffs and melancholic rock melodies.

After releasing their first demo EP (2017), the guys really hit their stride in 2020 with their debut album “Sielulintu.” Since then, things have been steadily on the rise—including with the releases “Yö kulje kanssani” (2022) and “Monokroma,” released in 2024.

To label Einvigi as purely black metal, however, would be a gross oversimplification.
The band navigates the realm of post-black metal and blackgaze with precision (fans of Alcest or Harakiri for the Sky will know exactly what this means).

Typical blast-beat intensity and screeching shouts effortlessly alternate with dreamy shoegaze guitars, melancholic melodies, and clean vocals.

Thanks to their roots, subtle melodic death metal influences also shine through time and again, lending the songs a great deal of dynamism.

Thematically, almost everything revolves around natural phenomena, dreams, introspection, and Norse mythology—sung entirely in Finnish, which adds the finishing touch to the atmosphere.

The band is also extremely tight as a unit: Alongside Petteri Granberg (guitar & clean vocals), Joonas Koppanen (bass & harsh vocals) and Krister Virtanen (guitar) share the guitar duties, while drummer Mikael Ruoho provides the necessary drive from behind the kit.

So much for the background—because with “Latent,” the new album is now in the starting blocks, and I’d like to share my impressions of it with you.

The album starts off fairly laid-back, but then quickly builds up a dynamic all its own that had me captivated in no time.

I can wholeheartedly endorse my opening statement—"a perfect blend of coldness, romantic nature, and melancholy"—when it comes to this record.

That’s exactly what makes this album so special.
I also find the comparison to bands like Alcest or Harakiri for the Sky extremely fitting:
Whether it’s the elegant melodies or the deliberate outbursts of rage—the quality is simply top-notch.

It’s incredibly refreshing that you aren’t bombarded with the full 42 minutes all at once.
The band repeatedly gives the listener space to catch their breath and gather themselves before the tempo picks up and it all comes crashing down with tremendous force.

Latent doesn’t thrive on pure extremes, but rather uses them skillfully as stylistic devices. The foundation is a dense atmosphere, whose regular outbursts of rage make the overall experience all the more intense.

Instrumentally, Einvigi perform at an absolutely top-notch level:
The guitars produce both icy, clanging riffs and warm, natural romanticism; the drums strike a perfect balance between frenzy and calm rhythms; and the vocal duo of Petteri and Joonas adds the finishing touch, allowing you to drift completely into a world of their own.

With “Latent,” Einvigi deliver an absolute must-listen—no ifs, ands, or buts.

Heute haben mich direkt zwei Pakete erreicht, das eine habe ich mir selbst gegönnt, da weiss ich also schon was mich erwartet, das ist nämlich der neueste Merchdrop von Call of Charon, das werde ich euch dann auch zeitnah in einem neuen Unboxing präsentieren.

Das Zweite stammt von Schattenpfade, das Label ist hier schon häufiger aufgetaucht zum Beispiel in Kooperationen mit Fetzner Death Records, da wurde mir lediglich das Paket angekündigt, ich weiss aber absolut nicht was sich darin befindet.

Die Maße sind aber schon vielversprechend

Unsere heutige Band des Tages Asgrauw wurde im Jahr 2010 im gelderländischen Groesbeek ins Leben gerufen.

Von Beginn an verfolgte man den Ansatz, die kompromisslose Kälte des klassischen Black Metal der 90er-Jahre mit der rohen Energie des Punk zu verschmelzen.

Nach den ersten Demos und dem Debüt Schijngestalten (2014) feierte die Gruppe 2018 mit dem Album Gronspech ihren endgültigen Durchbruch in der Underground-Szene.

Charakteristisch für Asgrauw sind die überwiegend in ihrer niederländischen Muttersprache vorgetragenen Texte, die sich thematisch mit dem Untergang der Menschheit, lokaler Misanthropie und düsteren Mythen auseinandersetzen.

Die Besetzung zeichnet sich seit Jahren durch ein eingespieltes, festes Gefüge aus, nämlich Vaal mit Gesang & Schlagzeug, Batr steuert Gesang & Bass bei und Kaos Gitarre & Hintergrundgesang.

Mit Veröffentlichungen wie IJsval (2020) und Façade (2022) hat sich das Trio fest etabliert.

Durch das Zusammenspiel der zwei prägenden Hauptstimmen von Vaal und Batr sowie den gezielten Einsatz von Samples und melancholischen Melodieläufen schaffen Asgrauw eine ebenso hasserfüllte wie beklemmende Atmosphäre.

Mit Solips geht Asgrauw in die nächste Runde, und da hab ich für euch mal reingehört.

Das Gelderländer Trio bleibt seiner Linie treu, treibt die philosophische Abgründigkeit diesmal jedoch auf die Spitze.

Der Albumtitel leitet sich vom Solipsismus ab – der radikalen Annahme, dass nur das eigene Bewusstsein sicher existiert.

Solips schnürt dem Hörer, in dem Fall mir, vom ersten Riff an förmlich die Kehle zu.

Mit der Eröffnung „Confabulatie“ und dem peitschenden „Verblind“ servieren Asgrauw gewohnt eisigen 90er-Jahre-Black-Metal, durchsetzt mit einer spürbaren Punk-Attitüde.
Genau diese Unbekümmertheit unterscheidet die Band seit jeher von oft zu verkopften Genre-Kollegen.

Ein besonderes Highlight der Platte ist der anhaltende Vocal-Wechsel zwischen Vaal und Batr, was dem ganzen eine eigene Dynamik verleiht.

Hasserfüllte Gutturals treffen auf giftiges Kreischen, was Songs wie der Vorab-Single „Schaduwganger“ eine enorme Dichte verleiht.

Die Produktion wirkt angenehm organisch, die Gitarren sägen frostig, während die Rhythmusfraktion kompromisslos nach vorne drückt.

Tracks wie „Chronisch“ oder das Finale „Nadirflux“ brechen das hohe Tempo immer wieder durch melancholische Melodieläufe und dezent platzierte Samples auf, die dem Album eine beklemmende Tiefe verleihen.

Asgrauw liefern mit Solips ein rundum starkes Black-Metal-Werk ab. Wer auf rohe Energie, niederländische Unbarmherzigkeit und messerscharfe Riffs steht, kommt an dieser Scheibe nicht vorbei, hört unbedingt mal rein.

Onze ‘band van de dag’ van vandaag, Asgrauw, werd in 2010 opgericht in het Gelderlandse Groesbeek.

Vanaf het begin streefde de band ernaar om de compromisloze kilheid van de klassieke black metal uit de jaren ’90 te versmelten met de rauwe energie van de punk.

Na de eerste demo’s en het debuutalbum *Schijngestalten* (2014) brak de groep in 2018 definitief door in de undergroundscene met het album *Gronspech*.

Kenmerkend voor Asgrauw zijn de teksten, die overwegend in hun Nederlandse moedertaal worden gezongen en thematisch ingaan op de ondergang van de mensheid, lokale misantropie en duistere mythen.

De bezetting kenmerkt zich al jaren door een hechte, vaste samenstelling: Vaal zorgt voor zang en drums, Batr voor zang en bas en Kaos voor gitaar en achtergrondzang.

Met releases als *IJsval* (2020) en *Façade* (2022) heeft het trio zich stevig gevestigd.

Door het samenspel van de twee kenmerkende hoofdstemmen van Vaal en Batr en het doelgerichte gebruik van samples en melancholische melodielijnen creëert Asgrauw een even haatdragende als beklemmende sfeer.

Met *Solips* gaat Asgrauw de volgende ronde in, en ik heb er even naar geluisterd voor jullie.

Het Gelderlandse trio blijft trouw aan zijn stijl, maar drijft de filosofische duisternis deze keer tot het uiterste door.

De albumtitel is afgeleid van het solipsisme – de radicale aanname dat alleen het eigen bewustzijn zeker bestaat.

Solips snijdt de luisteraar, in dit geval mij, vanaf de eerste riff letterlijk de keel af.

Met de opener „Confabulatie“ en het beukende „Verblind“ serveert Asgrauw zoals gewoonlijk ijskoude black metal uit de jaren 90, doorspekt met een voelbare punkattitude.
Juist deze onbezorgdheid onderscheidt de band al sinds jaar en dag van vaak te intellectuele genregenoten.

Een bijzonder hoogtepunt van de plaat is de voortdurende afwisseling tussen de zang van Vaal en Batr, wat het geheel een eigen dynamiek geeft.

Haatdragende keelklanken gaan gepaard met giftig gekrijs, wat nummers als de voorlopige single „Schaduwganger“ een enorme densiteit geeft.

De productie klinkt aangenaam organisch, de gitaren zagen ijzig, terwijl de ritmesectie compromisloos naar voren drukt.

Nummers als „Chronisch“ of de afsluiter „Nadirflux“ doorbreken het hoge tempo steeds weer met melancholische melodielijnen en subtiel geplaatste samples, die het album een beklemmende diepgang geven.

Asgrauw levert met „Solips“ een in alle opzichten sterk black metal-album af. Wie houdt van rauwe energie, Nederlandse meedogenloosheid en vlijmscherpe riffs, kan niet om deze plaat heen; luister er zeker eens naar.

Today’s “Band of the Day,” Asgrauw, was formed in 2010 in Groesbeek, Gelderland.

From the very beginning, the band sought to fuse the uncompromising coldness of classic ’90s black metal with the raw energy of punk.

After their first demos and their debut album *Schijngestalten* (2014), the group achieved their definitive breakthrough in the underground scene in 2018 with the album *Gronspech*.

Characteristic of Asgrauw are the lyrics, performed predominantly in their native Dutch, which thematically explore the downfall of humanity, local misanthropy, and dark myths.

For years, the lineup has been characterized by a well-rehearsed, stable structure: Vaal on vocals and drums, Batr on vocals and bass, and Kaos on guitar and backing vocals.

With releases such as *IJsval* (2020) and *Façade* (2022), the trio has firmly established itself.

From the very first riff, *Solips* literally chokes the listener—in this case, me.

With the opener “Confabulatie” and the lashing “Verblind,” Asgrauw serves up their usual icy ’90s black metal, laced with a palpable punk attitude.
It’s precisely this carefree spirit that has always set the band apart from their often overly intellectual genre peers.

A particular highlight of the album is the constant vocal switching between Vaal and Batr, which lends the whole thing its own unique dynamic.

Hateful guttural growls clash with venomous screams, giving songs like the lead single “Schaduwganger” an enormous intensity.

The production feels pleasantly organic; the guitars cut through with a frosty edge, while the rhythm section pushes forward uncompromisingly.

Tracks like “Chronisch” or the closing track “Nadirflux” repeatedly break up the fast tempo with melancholic melodic lines and subtly placed samples, lending the album an oppressive depth.

With *Solips*, Asgrauw delivers a thoroughly strong black metal album. If you’re into raw energy, Dutch ruthlessness, and razor-sharp riffs, you can’t pass up this record—be sure to give it a listen.
