This move will be different - and not in the easy way.
We’re heading into our next move… and this time, it’s Belgium.
Most of our moves, we’ve lived on base.
Which meant:
• Instant friends
• Kids in the same situation
• Families who understood this life
• A built-in community from day one
We have lived off base before - twice, but that was in the U.S.
Still familiar. Still easier.
This time?
- No base.
- No built-in network.
- No friends.
- No family nearby.
Just us - starting again in a completely new country.
And if I’m honest...that’s the hardest part.
- Not the logistics.
- Not the move.
- The people piece.
- At the same time, there’s the career reality.
I have a part-time remote role that’s growing - which I’m grateful for.
But it’s not where I ultimately want to be. I still want a full-time role.
The challenge?
Most of the roles I’ve applied for require me to be U.S.-based.
- That’s not my reality.
- So I’ve had to adjust and rethink what's possible.
- Focus on work that can move with me.
- Build something that doesn’t reset every time we do.
If you’re in a season where your life doesn’t fit the “ideal” career path, this is what I’ve learned:
→ You don’t need perfect conditions to keep building
→ You can adjust your path without giving up your goals
→ Progress doesn’t always look like a straight line
