➡️ The Volunteer Fire Department is once again inviting everybody to the Maypole Festival, which kicks off the festival season. On 📅 Wednesday, April 30th, the maypole will be put up by volunteer firefighters using muscle power at the festival grounds near the Kastenhaus of the museum.

➡️ GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — On April 8, 1945, hundreds of American bombers unleashed a wave of ordnance over this Bavarian village, destroying much of a sprawling military training base and setting surrounding buildings ablaze.

➡️ The "Elvis Myth" lives on, especially in the Cultural and Military Museum. The "King of Rock and Roll," who sits at the grand piano from the legendary Mickeey Bar in the museum, was visited by his cousin Donna Presley, contemporary witness Raimund Rodler, and nearly 100 enthusiastic Elvis fans.

➡️ Annual General Meeting of the German-American Community Council

➡️ The large marquee tent was unfortunately unavailable to the German-American Community Council (DAGA) at the German-American Volksfest this year. Despite this challenge, DAGA was able to provide 600 Christmas packages for socially disadvantaged citizens, which was a tremendous support for the community.

➡️ This year marks the 80th anniversary of the bombing of the town and the training area at the end of World War II. On April 5 and 8, 1945, air raids by US bombers reduced Grafenwoehr to rubble and ashes. April 8, 1945, White Sunday, became Grafenwoehr's darkest day.

➡️ Haag Cemetery on Grafenwoehr Training Area

➡️ The village of Haag, with over 500 inhabitants, was the central location of the expansion area for the training area in 1938. Only the remains of walls, cellar vaults, a granite stone with a cross, historical plaques, the old village pond and the restored cemetery still indicate the former village.
