Happy Easter! Our Easter bunny has been hiding some treats for our guests around the Stadtvilla, among RvLoM’s designs 🐰

My talented wife .l.mey with the green thumb 🌱👍🏻 explained to me how to trim our rose 🌹 arch today, and why even bother doing this in the first place.

Why?
- If you let the shoots keep growing upwards, the plant will put all its energy there, and we won’t get any pretty flowers in the lower areas that are actually on the arch
- More growth upwards = more weight at the top, which will cause the plant to collapse sooner or later

How to do it:
- Make sure your gloves and arms are protected - thorns ain’t no joke
- Cut out any dead shoots
- Trim the living shoots right above a “bud eye” that is pointing in the direction you want the rose to grow. On normal rose plants, you want the growth to go upwards, so you trim the plant just above bud eyes facing up. With an arch, you want more growth to be horizontal or downwards, and you choose bud eyes that help to meet this goal.
