A small end-of-year homage to the music of my teenage years, namely the three Picture Music albums released by the Sky label.
They were the impressionistic soundtrack to incense-fumed parties in our childhood bedrooms, to romantic teenage-despair poetry, hash cookies and fruit tea, Narcissus and Goldmund.
Lying on our backs, we explored the infamous “soundscapes,” “discussed” God and the universe, and maybe someone even read a poem from their diary (not me, I swear!).
Soon the teenage angst dissolved like a smoke ring swept away by the storm of punk and wave. What remained is engraved in our biographies and filed somewhere between Pink Floyd and music à la Ping Pong: the wonderfully introspective pieces by Rother, Cluster & Eno, Roedelius, and Streetmark, to whom this album is dedicated.
