Submit your music for the show!

Now that I got around to creating this page for my show on Radio Home of Rock, its time to introduce a proper system that allows bands to submit their music. It is simple and I’ll be explaining how it works in this post.

Lets start this off with a description of the kind of music I am interested in. My database consists of over 500 bands from many music scenes, but most of that can be described as being part of the broad Stoner / Doom underground scene. I am not a big fan of Doom, but I recognize that there are nonetheless some really great doom bands out there and I play and endorse them on the show as well! So if you’re a doom band and you think you got a bit of an edge in some way that makes you stand out from the masses of other doom bands, don’t hesitate to get in touch! I am also a very big fan of the greek stoner rock scene, of the Desert Rock genre, of the Palm Desert Scene, of the scandinavian scene and of many more! In terms of how heavy the music I play on the show is, I’d say a good half is heavy stuff and the other half could be described as relaxed in one way or another. From some chill psychedelic rock along the lines of Cosmic Fall to some great progressive Gin Lady or Arcadian Child, my relaxing half of my shows and database really doesn’t know boundaries. As for my heavy stuff, my preference lies with clean vocals and a sound that stands out from the masses of generic stoner metal and doom bands.

Production wise I much prefer a hi-fi sound over music that is deliberately produced to be lo-fi. A professional production on your album, EP or single can never hurt and usually results in your music to be much more enjoyable for my general radio audience.

I’m a big fan of bands along the lines of Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Sleep, Eloy, Status Quo, Uriah Heep, Witchrider, Deaf Radio, Stonerror, Spaceslug, The Devil And The Almighty Blues and Earthless, as well as countless others! I come from a background of growing up with 70s British rock music along the lines of Status Quo, Uriah Heep, The Sweet and Slade, but throughout my years have also been into Death Metal, Metal, Alternative and more modern british rock along the lines of Cake and Kasabian.

If you want to submit your music to me so I can play it on the show, here is how it goes:

Make sure its not generic doom or stoner metal with grunting vocals.

Get in touch via message. Say hello. Introduce yourself and the band. Tell me about bands that influenced your music.

Send me a bandcamp or youtube link to your stuff. I’m generally not interested in soundcloud links or links to obscure music sites, and I am not a user of spotify so I can’t really do much if you send me a spotify link.

I will have a listen to your music to see if its fit to be played on the show. I don’t only play music that I’m a fan of, I’m generally rather open minded in that regard. There are alot of bands on my database that I enjoy but am not a fan of. It is simply not possible for me to really follow and be a fan of hundreds of bands at once. I actively follow and check on updates of about 40 bands, but I do usually like all bands I play on the show on facebook (with my private account and from now on also probably with this site).

If your music sounds good to me and fits on the show, I will require a download for the music. Gema prevents me from just downloading it via torrent or youtube or even more dubious sources - I can and only want to play music that I get sent by the musicians themselfes, their managers, their labels, or music that I own on CD myself. There are 3 main easy ways that you can provide me with a download: Bandcamp Codes, Wetransfer or Dropbox.

Music format should be MP3 if its not a bandcamp code. 320 kbit. Tagged. That means that artist, track name, album name, track number and year should already be filled in. Bandcamp does that automatically. I used to do tagging manually in the past, but once your database grows to thousands and thousands of songs like mine has, eventually I just don’t bother anymore if a band can’t tag their music properly.

I will schedule posts on facebook for whenever I go on air. In those posts I mark all the bands that I play on that show if I know the playlist in advance. Sometimes I get around to making the playlist early, other times I don’t.

When your band gets tagged on my announcement posts, I expect you (as long as your band page is under 8000 likes) to share my posts from time to time. This way more people hear about Radio Home of Rock and will follow us. It’s a win-win situation for both sides. Bands get free promo and exposure and we expand our audience!

Radio Home of Rock is nonprofit. So if you submit your music you do not have to worry about us making money from it. We do this because we love the music and we want to support the bands. Same goes for when you want to submit new music to us so we can promote it ahead of release. We would never leak any music, any songs / albums / EPs that you send us will be treated with respect and only be played on the show (ahead of release if the bands approve of it) and be listened to in private!
