Multi-instrumentalist Adam Luksetich formed Dirty Tricks in Chicago in 2020, before moving to LA. Inspired by bands of the early 1980s, Adam sought to bring forth the sound of metal and rock blurring together, oozing up like steam from the streets of the Sunset Strip. To have some kind of audio calling card for the move, he quickly recorded 4 songs and released them as a digital EP under the name ยปBright Lights, Big Cityยซ, which he wrote the songs and recorded all the instruments himself.
For the 1st full album ยปNot Gonna Stopยซ Dirty Tricks signed a deal with HRR. Once again, as Adam explains, there was little outside help: โMy live guitarists, Alex and Aaron, handled some of the solos, but I recorded and produced everything on my own and went to Electrical Audio in Chicago to record the drums.โ
ยปNot Gonna Stopยซ sounds like a pure, old-school, feel-good hard rock/metal album with hints of early Def Leppard, Dokken and Guns Nยด Roses. โYes! I would say old-school for sure,โ agrees Adam. โI was listening to a lot of early 80s heavy metal at the time this record was coming together. Also, the production is โold-school,' all live and raw. โFeel-goodโ makes sense to me as well! I always wanted Dirty Tricks to be something where you could headbang but also sing along to.โ
Asked about the meaning behind the album's title, Adam explains he'll never stop writing and playing music. โMy earliest memories as a child are all music-based. I listen to all types of music, and thatโs important here. Especially if weโre talking about the title track โNot Gonna Stopโ. It really was my attempt at making a hard rock version of Charlie Richโs โRollinโ With The Flowโ. The line โI Still Love Rock โnโ Rollโ is jacked straight from that song.โ
