It is interesting to see the Nigerian government make a case for the State of Palestine and against the continued genocide by Isreal at the UN general assembly; while it continues to play the ostrich in the massacres and ethnic cleanings of original inhabitants of Christian communities in Benue and Plateau states.

It is laughable that a government that has continued to make a case for Fulani aggressors who have dominated ethnic farmlands, displacing thousands, thereby inconspicuously validating the killings of its own citizens……

You are going to build your neighbor’s house, when your roof is leaking.

Vice President Shettima nay the Nigerian government, lacks the merit to speak on behalf of the oppressed people of Palestine, because they themselves employ and enable oppression of the worst level.

They govern a society where press freedom is alien and the police boasts brazenly “I will kill you and nothing will happen”.

By the employment of this government, the rule of law has been relegated and tyranny reigns. Women are sexually harassed and bullied for speaking out; the constitution is suspended at the whims of the President and political opposition is nearly extinct.

How can the Nigerian government speak on justice, a right it does not accord its citizens? Can a man give what it does not have??

If any government should speak for the rights of a Palestinian State, it should not be Nigeria. Not when they have the blood of innocent babies torn out of their mother’s bellies or those who were roasted in their sleep, still crying out for justice.

Vice President Kashim Shettima speaking for peace, justice and the sanctity of human lives for the State of Palestine is at best grandstanding.

The hypocrisy is astounding.

I am curious to see him return to Nigeria to hold the same stance for the many victims of genocidal oppression in various Northern communities, and not just talk, but work to bring them JUSTICE and PEACE .

Obi Reflects on Leadership Conduct During US Trip

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has drawn attention to the striking contrast between leadership conduct in the United States and Nigeria, following his ongoing three-day trip to the USA.

Mr. Obi, who departed Lagos on 24 September for visits to Washington and Chicago with a stopover in Atlanta, travelled on Delta Airlines, the first American airline, which has operated for over a century.

On arrival at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, widely regarded as the busiest in the world, Obi noted its scale and economic impact. The airport handles over 100 million passengers annually—five times the total traffic of all Nigerian airports combined—and generates about $32 billion annually for the City of Atlanta and $70 billion for the wider metropolitan area and the State of Georgia.

According to him, Atlanta City itself runs on an annual budget of about $3 billion (over ₦4.5 trillion). Its current Mayor, Mr. Andre Dickens, a former businessman turned politician, has prioritised public safety, youth opportunities, crime reduction, and a $15 minimum hourly wage for council workers. Dickens’ personal worth is estimated at about $10 million.

Obi disclosed that he met the Mayor and both travelled on the same flight from Atlanta to Washington. He observed that at the airport, on board, and on arrival at Ronald Reagan National Airport, there was no special announcement of Dickens’ presence, no aides carrying his luggage, and no preferential treatment during boarding or disembarkation.

Comparing this with Nigeria, Obi remarked that governors—many of whom preside over budgets far smaller than Atlanta’s—and even local government chairmen with allocations less than 1% of Atlanta’s, often cause public disruption with sirens, protocol entourages, endless announcements, and conspicuous displays of power.

“Our public conduct and behaviour must change,” Obi stressed.

WHERE DID ₦1 TRILLION GO?

I recently read a report from the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) stating that it has disbursed over ₦1 trillion to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria since 2015. By simple conversion over the said period, this amounts to more than $1 billion.

I did not comment immediately on this claim because I wanted to investigate further, especially through my travels and contacts with small businesses across the country. The reality is that most of them are not even aware of any such disbursement, and over 80% are unaware of the Bank’s very existence. The level of knowledge about the existence and utility of such an institution is directly proportional to its impact on the people it is meant to serve.

If indeed such an amount was deployed to support enterprises, the results should be evident. For instance, if $1 billion were disbursed in small loans averaging about $,1000 each, it could have supported at least 1 million small businesses. The ripple effect of this would have been no less than 3 million new jobs, with visible growth in enterprises, an improved economy, and measurable progress in lifting people out of poverty.

But the reality before us today tells a different story: unemployment remains at a record high, businesses are struggling to survive rather than thriving, many enterprises are shutting down or relocating outside Nigeria, and poverty is deepening instead of reducing. So the critical question is: if ₦1 trillion truly left the coffers of DBN to empower Nigerians, where did the money go?

How can such a huge sum be disbursed and yet ordinary Nigerians feel no impact? Empowerment is not a slogan or a campaign tool - it must be proven by results. Nigerians need to know where the money went. Who exactly were the beneficiaries? What tangible businesses were created? Where is the proof of jobs generated or poverty reduced?

Without answers to these questions, the claim of ₦1 trillion disbursement remains yet another round of grand deception, where scarce national resources are captured by a few elites and recycled under the guise of empowerment schemes.

Nigeria must insist on transparency and accountability. Our people deserve evidence that such vast sums are being invested in their lives and future—not lost to corruption or buried in empty statistics.

A New Nigeria is POssible.
