Following the explosive celebration of rhythm in Nova Concerts’ previous event, where Eliel Lazo and Machito paid tribute to the African roots of Afro-Cuban music, Resonancia shifts the focus to melody, lyricism, and the genre’s emotional core.

A World-Class Duo

Abel Marcel, described by The Guardian as “a phenomenal, dynamic, imaginative. An outstanding pianist,” is known for his ability to bridge European and American jazz traditions with his Cuban roots. His musical language is both structured and free, grounded in Caribbean and Latin American rhythmic traditions and informed by the classical legacy of Bach, Mozart, Cervantes, Tania León, and Ernesto Lecuona.

A tireless collaborator and lover of movement, Abel has composed for choreographers like Carlos Acosta, Jan Linkens, and Judith Sánchez Ruíz, and worked with artists such as David Murray, Changuito, Lucas van Merwijk, Jonas Johansen, Yuri Buenaventura, Saul Williams, Nasheet Waits, David Binney, and many others.

Carlos Sarduy is one of the most influential Cuban trumpet players of his generation. A prodigy who toured internationally by the age of 16, Sarduy has worked with legends such as Chucho Valdés, Bebo Valdés, Steve Coleman, Esperanza Spalding, and Co**ha Buika. He’s a Grammy-winning artist with a rich solo discography, blending Yoruba spirituality, flamenco, funk, and jazz into a powerful personal language.

Together, Abel and Carlos craft a sound journey that is both intimate and expansive — rooted in Afro-Cuban tradition and reaching far beyond it.

Afro Electric Mash-Up: Alan Apaloo & Jackson Wahengo LIVE..
On August 30th, from 5 to 7 PM, Nova Concerts invites you to an electrifying showcase under the open skies of Huset’s front yard. Two of Africa’s most innovative guitarists — Togo’s Alan Apaloo and Namibia’s Jackson Wahengo — will meet on stage for the first time to explore a rare musical dialogue between West and Southern African traditions.

Armed with electric guitars and deep cultural roots, they will weave together highlife grooves, desert blues, township swing, and jazz into a one-of-a-kind sonic tapestry.

The concert is free and open to all as introduces The FREE SUMMER STAGE CONCERT SERIES. Taking our audiences on a free ride through our musical universe for one afternoon each summer! So, come early, grab a drink, and experience the Afro Electric Mash-Up in our intimate Copenhagen setting.
