Rare big Earthquake in Gulf at 2pm today off Cuba.
The strongest known Gulf earthquake was likely a 1959 quake in the far SW Gulf near/offshore Veracruz, Mexico, around magnitude 6.4. The strongest modern quake in the North/ East Gulf was the widely felt 2006 magnitude 5.8–6.0 event west-southwest of Florida. But today's is the biggest ever recorded in our vicinity.
