Lexington, Kentucky. November 30, 2025.
A hidden layer of black ice on a steep road in Lexington triggered a fast moving chain reaction crash early Sunday, sending more than a dozen vehicles sliding downhill out of control. Authorities say no serious injuries were reported.
Video captured by a driver at the bottom of the hill shows a gray sedan attempting to brake before instantly drifting sideways and crashing into a spun out vehicle. Seconds later more cars crest the hill, hit the same invisible ice patch, and slide helplessly into the growing pileup. One red car spins almost completely around before slamming into the cluster of wrecked vehicles.
Emergency crews quickly closed the road and treated the slope with salt. Officials say a thin glaze of black ice had formed overnight, hidden by a light dusting of snow, turning the roadway into a slick downhill slide with no warning to drivers.
