Burning World Pottery

Hi, I’m AJ DeLizza and I was a production potter in the Boston area from 1970 until 1982. Working primarily in Porcelain and High Temperature firing a hand built 100 cubic foot Japanese style Hill climbing gas kiln of 3 sections.

When I retired in the Canoa area after a few years of wandering the beach I decided to set up another pottery studio here in La Fortuna, Briceño. My current work reflects the bright colors of the playas around Ecuador combined with some of the original finishing techniques I pioneered in the 70’s.

I feel very fortunate to be living in such a wonderful country and being given the opportunity to relive a dream.

Burning World Pottery
Wheel Thrown Stoneware and Porcelain

Air, Earth, Fire and Water are the only ingredients in Burning World Pottery. The colors are produced with various combinations of natural oxides, minerals, and powdered metals, are combined with Porcelain clay dust. First heated to 3000 degrees, cooled and blended the materials are then combined with water and salt allowing Alessandro DeLizza to create the colors of the Ecuadorian Sunset, the Pacific Ocean and the Playa as well as the beautiful flowers growing in La Fortuna.

The sower decides his daily works, but only the Supreme Court decides upon his destiny”. In this sense, the palindrome holds a moral meaning as: “Men determine their daily activities, but only God shapes their destiny”.

Therefore, we can choose our duties and perform our activities, but there is a destiny that rules over us. In order to reap we need to sow and in order to build our own success we need to work hard. Above all, we need to stay in tune with the world as a whole.
