- Geolocated footage published on April 3 indicates that Russian forces likely advanced in southern Bakhmut closer to the Avangard stadium. Russian forces attacked Orikhovo-Vasylivka (11km northwest of Bakhmut), Khromove (2km west of Bakhmut), and Ivanivske (6km west of Bakhmut). Geolocated footage published on April 4 indicates that Russian forces made marginal gains west of Novobakhmutivka (13km northwest of Avdiivka). Geolocated footage published on April 2 indicates that Ukrainian forces likely recaptured positions northwest of Novoselivka (17km northeast of Avdiivka) and advanced close to the settlement.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces conducted unsuccessful attacks on Kreminna, Nevske (20km northwest of Kreminna), Dibrova (5km southwest of Kreminna), and Serebrianska forest area (10km south of Kreminna). - The ex-head of Antonov State Enterprise, Serhii Bychkov, was charged with official negligence leading to the destruction of the Mriya aircraft.

Donetsk:
- Russian forces continued to attack Bakhmut and its environs. Ukrainian forces conducted a missile strike on the AZOM plant on April 2 confirming its capture. Ukrainian Spokesperson Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi stated that Russian forces retreated from unspecified positions in the Donetsk direction.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces continued limited ground attacks along the Svatove-Kreminna line. Russian officials claimed that Russian forces made marginal gains northwest of Kreminna.
Southern Ukraine:
- Ukrainian forces conducted a HIMARS strike against a rail depot in Melitopol, Zaporizhia Oblast, the third strike against the city in the past week.

Ukraine/Russia:

- Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is scheduled to visit Russia's Kaliningrad to address safety concerns over the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzia Nuclear Power Plant.

EU/NATO/UN:

- Russian forces did not make any confirmed gains in or around Bakhmut on April 1. Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces continued assaults on Bakhmut itself and conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Bohdanivka (6km northwest of Bakhmut) and Ivanivske (6km west of Bakhmut). Geolocated footage indicates that Ukrainian forces likely made marginal gains northeast of Vodyane (8km southwest of Avdiivka). Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Avdiivka, Novobakhmutivka (14km northwest of Avdiivka), Sieverne, Pervomaiske, and Marinka.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces conducted unsuccessful attacks against Kreminna, Chervonopopivka, Makiivka, Dibrova, Hryhorivka, Bilohorivka, and Verkhnokamyanske. Geolocated footage indicated that Ukrainian forces made limited advances west of Chervonopopivka and northeast of Verkhnokamyanske.

- Russian, Ukrainian, and Western sources observed on April 1 that the Russian winter offensive has failed to achieve the Kremlin’s goals of seizing the Donetsk and Luhansk oblast administrative borders by March 31. - Geolocated footage posted on March 31 shows a Wagner Group flag on a building in the center of Bakhmut within a few blocks (within 400 meters) of the city administration building. Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that there are no signs that Ukrainian troops are leaving Bakhmut, claimed that Wagner does not report out on the full extent of its own gains in Bakhmut, and called for conventional Russian forces around Bakhmut to continue to hold the flanks and support Wagner’s operations within the city. Geolocated footage posted on March 31 indicates that Ukrainian troops conducted a counterattack southwest of Bakhmut and regained lost positions south of Ivanivske (about 7km southwest of Bakhmut). Geolocated footage published on March 31 indicates that Russian force advanced in Vesele (6km north of Avdiivka).

- Wagner fighters continued assault operations in the industrial zone in northern Bakhmut, advanced north of the Bakhmut City Market in the center of the city, and have completely cleared neighborhoods in southern and southwestern Bakhmut. Ukrainian Colonel Yevhen Mezhevikin stated on March 30 that Russian assaults in the Bakhmut area have slowed and that Ukrainian forces have thwarted an imminent threat of encirclement. Russian forces conducted operation near Avdiivka, Novobakhmutivka, Novokalynove, Stepove, Sieverne, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Krasnohorivka, and Marinka.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces conducted unsuccessful operations against Berestove (24km northwest of Svatove), Stelmakhivka (12km northwest of Svatove), Kuzmyne (3km southwest of Kreminna), and Vyimka (27km southwest of Kreminna). - Putin signed a decree authorizing the conscription of 147,000 Russians into the military for its spring cycle.
- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast on charges of espionage on March 30. Russian authorities may have arrested Gershkovich as a retaliatory response to the US arrest of Russian national Sergey Vladimirovich Cherkasov on March 24 on charges of acting as an agent of a foreign power.

EU/NATO/UN:

- The IMF has approved $15.6 billion dollars for Ukraine, of which $2 billion will be disbursed immediately.

United States:

- The U.S. reported Wagner Group has lost 30,000 casualties in the fight for Bakhmut, with approximately 9,000 dead. This severely constrains Russia’s ability to continue operations around the city.
- The U.S. will likely announce a new arms package worth $2.6 billion.

- Wagner Group forces have likely captured the industrial AZOM plant. Geolocated footage shows Russian forces likely advanced in southern Bakhmut and up to the Bakhmut City Market. Russian forces established sufficient river crossings across the Bakhmutka river and fighting in Bakhmut is increasingly shifting to western parts of the city. Russian forces may be regrouping near Bakhtaran, as the tempo of attacks has decreased over three days.
Near Avdiivka, Russian troops attacked Avdiivka, Stepove (7km northwest of Avdiivka), Sieverne, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, and Marinka. The UK MoD claimed the Russian 10th Tank Regiment lost the majority of its tanks in the effort to encircle Avdiivka in recent days.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces continued unsuccessful operations against Krokhmalne (20km northwest of Svatove), Kuzmyne (3km southwest of Kreminna), Bilohorivka (10km south of Kreminna), Verkhnokamyanske (18km south of Kreminna), and Berestove (30km south of Kreminna). Ukrainian forces reported attacks on Bakhmut, Bohdanivka (6km northwest), Ivanivske (5km west) and Predtechyne (15km southwest).
Near Avdiiivka, Russian forces attacked Avdiivka, Novokalynove (10km north of Avdiivka), Severne (5km west of Avdiivka), Tonenke (5km west of Avdiivka), Stepove (8km northwest of Avdiivka), Novobakhmutivka (11km northwest of Avdiivka), Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka and Marinka. - Russian forces continued attacking Bakhmut and its environs and made marginal gains within the city. Russian sources claimed that Wagner Group forces cleared the AZOM plant in northern Bakhmut. Russian sources reported the formation of the “Uragan” volunteer battalion of the irregular formation 1st “Wolves” Sabotage and Reconnaissance Brigade, which operates in the Avdiivka area.
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks on the Svatove-Kreminna line. Ukrainian officials stated that Russian and Ukrainian forces fought 10 battles in the Kupyansk-Lyman direction.
Southern Ukraine:
- Head of the Ukrainian United Coordination Press Center of the Southern Defense Forces Nataliya Humenyuk stated that Russian forces in southern Ukraine lack adequate supplies of missiles and drones.

Ukraine/Russia:

Donetsk:
- Geolocated footage shows Russian forces advancing towards the T0504 Kostyantynivka-Chasiv Yar-Bakhmut highway just south of Ivanivske, about 7km southwest of Bakhmut. Additional footage shows advances west of Zalizianske (11km northwest of Bakhmut) and within northern Bakhmut itself. Ukrainian forces retook a portion of the E40 Bakhmut-Slovyansk highway north of Bakhmut. Ukrainian forces repelled attacks on Bakhmut, Orikhovo-Vasylivka (11km northwest), Bohdanivka (6km northwest), Ivanivske (5km west), Stupochky (11km southwest) and Predtechyne (14km southwest).

- Crimean occupation head Sergey Aksyonov has formed a Wagner Group-affiliated PMC. PMC “Convoy” is under the leadership of Prigozhin associate Konstantin Pikalov, who has led Wagner operations in Africa.
- Putin has claimed Russia will modernize 1,600 tanks over the next three years, as well as produce new ones.

- Russian forces continued offensive operations near Bakhmut but have not completed a turning movement, envelopment, or encirclement around the city. Russian milbloggers claimed that Wagner Group fighters captured parts or all of Orikhovo-Vasylivka (11km northwest of Bakhmut), although Wagner Group stated that Wagner fighters do not control the settlement. Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces entered Krasnohorivka (9km north of Avdiivka).
Eastern Ukraine:
- Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line.
Southern Ukraine:
- No significant movement reported on Southern front.

Ukraine/Russia:

- Iranian State Media announced on March 11 that Iran has finalized a deal to buy Sukhoi-35 fighter jets from Russia.

EU/NATO/UN:

- United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (UK MoD) reported on March 12 that Russian military personnel from eastern regions of Russia die in Ukraine at per capita rates up to fortyfold of those of Russian personnel from Moscow City. They also reported that Kazakh and Tartar minorities make up 75 percent of casualties among Russian military personnel from Astrakhan Oblast.
- Serbia's Economy Minister Rade Basta on March 13 called on his government to finally impose sanctions against Russia.
- The EU Council has extended sanctions for another six months.

Ukrainian forces repelled attacks on Bakhmut, Paraskoviivka (3km northeast), Zalizianske (10km northwest), Dubovo-Vasylivka (6km northwest), Bohdanivka (6km northwest), and Ivanivske (5km west). Near Avdiivka, Russia attacked Avdiivka, Kamianka (5km northeast of Avdiivka), Severne (5km west of Avdiivka), Tonenke (6km west of Avdiivka), Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Vodyane, Krasnohorivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka.
Eastern Ukraine:

- A military court in Moscow will try eight mobilized soldiers from Kaliningrad Oblast for desertion, a charge that reportedly carries a prison term of up to 15 years.
- Members of the Atesh partisan movement blew up the railway track between the occupied settlements of Abrikosivka and Radensk.
- On March 12, 239 Russian soldiers were recorded killed, and another 293 injured in the sector of the front line around Bakhmut.

Russia continued unsuccessful operations against Avdiivka, Kamianka (5km northeast of Avdiivka), Krasnohorivka (9km north of Avdiivka), Severne (5km west of Avdiivka), Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka.
