Chinese Woman Found Bound and Robbed in Pattaya, ThailandOn January 12, 2026, Thai authorities in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province responded to an emergency call at a rental residence in the Zensiri housing complex in Nong Prue Subdistrict. At the scene, police discovered a Mercedes-Benz crashed against a wall with a female Chinese national tied up inside the vehicle.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Yang Wang, was found bound with tape around her face, torso, and legs and lying in the back seat. Investigation revealed that she had been lured to the location and robbed.
According to Wang’s statement to police, she met a 30-year-old Chinese man named Gong Gaopeng through the social networking app WeChat, where he promised to show her a house for sale. After meeting him, the suspect allegedly assaulted her, bound her with tape, stole her mobile phone, and forced her to reveal her account password.
The suspect then used her phone to transfer approximately ¥6,996 (about 31,469 Thai Baht) from Wang’s WeChat account to his own. At one point, a passerby approached and said the vehicle could not remain parked there. The suspect attempted to flee at high speed but crashed the car into a nearby wall. He then exited the vehicle and disappeared on foot. Authorities are currently investigating the case and have issued warrants for arrest.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about public safety for foreign nationals in Thailand, amid broader reports of robberies, fraud, and violent crimes targeting visitors and expatriates in the region.
