⚠️ FROM Theory: What if we’ve misunderstood EVERYTHING? ⚠️
The more I think about it, the less I believe the children were sacrificed to create the evil.
What if they were sacrificed to contain it?
Everyone assumes the goal is to “save the children,” but something feels off. The children never look terrified. They never beg for help. They never say “save us.”
Instead, they keep saying:
“Remember.”
Not save. Remember.
What if they’re not asking Tabitha and Jade to rescue them?
What if they’re asking them to remember WHY the sacrifice happened in the first place?
The child Jade saw in the tomb wasn’t trapped or scared. He was just sitting there, almost like a guardian or a witness. Even the children on the stone slabs don’t act like victims. They seem to understand something that everyone else has forgotten.
This would explain why memory is such a huge theme in the show.
Tabitha is remembering Miranda.
Jade is remembering Christopher.
Victor spends his life trying not to remember.
And Ethan seems to be slowly becoming the next Victor.
What if every cycle has roles?
A rememberer.
A witness.
A guardian.
A skeptic.
Which brings me to Jim.
The more I think about it, the more I feel Jim wasn’t killed because he knew too much.
He was killed because he kept stopping everyone from going deeper.
He questioned the visions.
He questioned the voices.
He questioned the supernatural explanations.
He was the one constantly asking:
“How do we know this isn’t exactly what they want us to do?”
And then the Man in Yellow kills him.
Why Jim and not Jade or Tabitha?
Unless Jim had become an obstacle.
Now let’s talk about the Man in Yellow.
I don’t think he’s the ultimate villain anymore.
He’s powerful. He can kill. He can manipulate reality. But he doesn’t act like someone in complete control.
He manipulates.
He warns.
He negotiates.
He seems afraid.
That makes me wonder…
What if there’s something even worse beneath the town?
What if the children are part of the seal keeping it trapped?
What if the Faraway Trees, the dungeon, Martin, the Boy in White, and even the monsters are all parts of a containment system built around something ancient?
That would explain why there are so many mythologies in the show instead of just one.
The town feels less like a curse and more like a prison holding multiple entities, memories, souls, nightmares, and myths together.
And maybe that’s why the children keep saying “remember.”
Not because remembering sets everyone free.
But because remembering reveals the truth.
Maybe Tabitha and Jade were there before.
Maybe they already made this choice in a previous cycle.
Maybe the real price of knowledge isn’t death.
Maybe it’s responsibility.
And maybe the biggest twist in the entire show is this:
The children weren’t sacrificed to create the darkness.
They were sacrificed to keep it locked away.
