Since setting off in October, Omar Nok has been hopping on ships, riding camels and relying on strangers’ generosity as he continues his no-fly journey in a bid to experience the world more deeply.

He also hopes his adventures will inspire those keeping track of him.

Day 165 | Km 18,931 | Dominican Republic | Around Earth Without Flying

Apparently, circling the planet without flying means you need a lot of boats to cross a lot of water. Who knew.. 😄

That’s probably the biggest difference on this journey compared to my previous ones - so much of the water crossings are out of my hands. I’m relying on connecting with sailors, and the route depends entirely on where they’re going ⛵

Nowadays I’m looking for the next ride to the mainland - anywhere in Central or South America. Ideally with a stop in Cuba first, but I’ll take what comes. Most of the search happens through sailing apps and Facebook groups.

Over the past couple of years, so many of you in the US & Canada have sent incredibly kind messages - offering a place to stay, showing me around your city/state, inviting me to a meal, etc. There were so many that I actually kept a long list of places and names in case I passed through!

I'm incredibly grateful for your support - definitely feel the love & hospitality 🫶🏽

My original plan was to travel through the US & Canada (ambitiously even up to Alaska, Newfoundland & Nunavut) before heading back down to Central & South America. Sadly, I can now confirm that won’t be possible.

Because I’ve traveled to countries like Iran and Libya (and 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 Cuba next), visiting the US is no longer as simple as before. I even went to the embassy here in the Dominican Republic (where I took this photo), but the closest visa interview is 4 months away, and I'm told it’s unlikely to be granted when applying outside my home country.

Hopefully another time I can come back for a big North America overland trip and finally meet many of you 🚐

For now, my sights are set on Latin America, which I'm also thrilled to return to. Hasta pronto amigos ✌🏽

Great news: I've made it to the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴🥳

On the other hand, I still haven't figured out how to continue from here without flying.

Overland to Haiti? Border closed, permit denied.
Cargo ship? Not approved to carry passengers.

Seems like the last remaining option is to join another sailboat ⛵

Direction-wise, the US doesn't look like an option since I don't have a visa, so it would need to be heading to Central or South America 🌎

Let's see where this goes...
