🎭 كنت وعدتكم أقولكم على أغرب مكان في مجمع الأديان…
المكان ده اسمه "الجنيزة" وده مش مجرد اسم دي غرفة مليانة أسرار وورق مدفون من 900 سنة
📍 في قلب معبد بن عزرا بحي مصر القديمة المكان اللي كان زمان كنيسة قبطية وتحول لمعبد يهودي في القرن الـ12 على إيد أبراهام بن عزرا
المعبد مصمَّم على الطراز البازيليكي مستطيل وواسع جواه 3 أروقة وأوسعهم الأوسط فيه منصتين: واحدة اسمها أطلس المعجزة والتانية البيما للصلاة
وفي الدور التاني شرفة صلاة السيدات وعلى الطرفين فيه حجرتين… واحدة للمقتنيات والتانية.....؟
هي دي بقى الجنيزة 👀
📜 إيه هي الجنيزة؟
كلمة عبرية معناها "الدفن" وهي غرفة سرية بيحطوا فيها كل الورق القديم المكتوب بالعبرية حتى لو وصل لورقة إيصال طالما فيه اسم من أسماء الله
الورق ده ميتمزقش ولا يتحرق… بيتخزن لحد ما الغرفة تتملي وبعدين يُدفن دفن شرعي زي الميت تمامًا
في سنة 1896، تم اكتشاف "جنيزة ابن عزرا" ومعاها "جنيزة جبانة البساتين" اللي بقت معروفة عالميًا باسم:
"جنيزة القاهرة" أو "جنيزة الفسطاط"
وتم العثور على أكتر من 250 ألف وثيقة محفوظة من أكتر من 900 سنة فيها كل حاجة عن الحياة في الشرق الأوسط:
من عقود جواز لتجارة لنصوص دينية لرسائل شخصية… بلغات متنوعة: العبرية، الآرامية، اليديشية، وحتى العربية
لكن...
💔 للأسف أغلب الوثائق دي اتهربت بره مصر خصوصًا لمكتبة كامبريدج واليهود بيعتبروها إرث يخصهم رغم إنها وثائق من قلب القاهرة

I promised to tell you about the strangest place inside Cairo’s Religions Complex...
A place called “The Geniza” — and it’s not just a name, it’s a hidden room full of mysteries!
Tucked away inside the Ben Ezra Synagogue, in the heart of Old Cairo, lies one of the greatest document discoveries in history.
This synagogue, originally a Coptic church, was rebuilt in the 12th century and attributed to Abraham Ben Ezra.
It’s built in basilica style, rectangular in shape, and divided into 3 aisles — the central one being the widest.
There are two platforms in the main hall: one known as Atlas of the Miracle and the other as the Bimah, the prayer platform.
Upstairs, there’s the women’s gallery with 3 sides, and at its corners are two special rooms — one for valuables, and the other… is the secret I’m about to reveal.
📜 The Geniza!
In Hebrew, “Geniza” means “to bury.”
It’s a sacred storage room where Jews kept all old papers written in Hebrew — even the most ordinary ones — because they believed the language itself is holy, as it contains the name of God.
These papers weren’t burned or torn, but respectfully stored and later buried in cemeteries like human remains.
But here’s the real shock: 👀 In 1896, the Geniza of Ben Ezra Synagogue was discovered — along with another in the Jewish Cemetery of Basatin.
Together, they became known as “The Cairo Geniza” or “The Geniza of Fustat.”
Over 250,000 documents were found, spanning 900 years of history — letters, marriage contracts, religious texts, trade records, and more — written in Hebrew, Aramaic, Yiddish, and even Arabic!
🤯 This treasure offers a window into the daily life of Jewish communities in Egypt and across the Middle East.
But sadly, most of it was taken abroad
especially to Cambridge University — and today, many consider it a Jewish cultural heritage.
But imagine…
If the Geniza had remained in Egypt, how many secrets about our region’s history could we have uncovered?
