Vietnamese airlines sign $30 bln deals for 90 jets

It includes 50 737-8s & 40 787-9s.

Reuters, WSJ & Bloomberg report that Vietnamese carriers Vietnam Airlines & Sun PhuQuoc Airways, signed deals for 90 Boeing jets valued at over $30B.

Airlines signed a $8.1-billion agreement with Boeing to buy 50 narrow-body 737-8 jets, Vietnam Airlines said in a statement.

The airline is scheduled to take delivery of the aircraft between 2030 and 2032, it said in a statement, adding that this would increase its total fleet to approximately 151 aircraft by 2030.

The country's flag carrier is also in talks with Boeing for the additional purchase of 30 wide-body planes with a value of up to $12 billion, it said.

Vietnam's newly established Sun PhuQuoc Airways also signed a $22.5 billion deal with Boeing on Thursday to buy 40 787-9 Dreamliner jets, it said.

The deals were signed during a visit to the United States by the head of Vietnam's Communist Party, To Lam, to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, an initiative launched by U.S. President Donald Trump to address global conflicts.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet ecured a $965 million financing deal with Griffin Global Asset Management for the purchase of 6 Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

Vietnam said early this month that it was willing to buy more American goods after the White House announced in October that the United States would keep tariffs on most Vietnamese goods at 20% while removing duties on certain products.

A JetBlue Flight 543 headed for Florida made an emergency return to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) after reporting engine trouble which led to flight disruption following an FAA-issued ground stop.

The Airbus A320 aircraft made a safe landing; passengers were evacuated via slides, no injuries reported.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says that JetBlue flight 543 took off from Newark headed to West Palm Beach around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday but had to return back due to engine snag.

The engine issue caused smoke in the cabin, prompting the plane to return after 17 minutes in flight.

Arik Air flight WP740, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt with a Boeing 737-700 (registration 5N-MJF), experienced an uncontained failure of the number 1 engine during the flight. The crew promptly diverted the aircraft to Benin Airport, where they performed a safe landing.

A LATAM pilot has been arrested while on duty by the Civil Police of São Paulo, suspected of participating in a gang involved in the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

Sérgio Antonio Lopes, 60, was arrested during boarding procedures for flight LA3900 (São Paulo/Congonhas–Rio de Janeiro/Santos Dumont).

The airline said in a statement, "LATAM Airlines Brazil confirms that it is aware of what happened this Monday morning (9/2) during the boarding procedures of flight LA3900 (São Paulo/Congonhas–Rio de Janeiro/Santos Dumont), in which one of its crew members was detained by police authorities. The flight operated normally, taking off and landing on time. LATAM informs that it has opened an internal investigation and is available to the authorities to collaborate with the investigations. The company vehemently repudiates any criminal action and reinforces that it follows the highest standards of safety and conduct."

A StarSky Fokker 50 crashes shortly after departure from Mogadishu Aden Adde International Airport, Somalia.

According to local reports all passengers have safely evacuated.
"The priority was ensuring there was no post-impact fire, given the proximity to the water," an airport official said. "We are relieved to report that everyone on board was evacuated safely."

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirmed the crash occurred in a coastal area just outside the airport's western perimeter, adding all crew members and 55 passengers had survived the incident.

It has since launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.

🚨 : Scandinavian Flight tries to take off on taxiway at Brussels Airport

This Scandinavian Airbus A320 seemed to accelarate to a whopping 107kts, which is over 120mph on a taxiway, it seems the aircraft tried to take off before realizing they were not actually on the runway.

A statement from Brussels Airport:

"...the departure of SAS flight SK2590 to Copenhagen was interrupted.. " " ..The flight, scheduled to depart at , was aborted and all 165 passengers were evacuated without injuries. Federal Police were present to provide psychological assistance on site, while Scandinavian Airlines has since contacted the affected passengers to offer alternative travel arrangements after they were unable to continue their journey that evening.”

The incident took place yesterday evening at around 9:45pm.

An investigation by Belgian authorities is allegedly underway.
