Your Water Bill Is Joining Egypt’s Digital Money Network

A water bill is no longer just a monthly payment—it is becoming part of Egypt’s expanding digital payment infrastructure.

Daman and the Canal Governorates Water and Wastewater Company have signed a cooperation agreement to activate POS-based electronic collection in Port Said, Ismailia and Suez.

Citizens will be able to pay water bills and recharge prepaid water-meter cards through Daman’s network of more than 110,000 service points, while field collectors will use POS devices to collect payments electronically.

The bigger move is reducing cash dependency and turning a traditional utility collection process into a connected digital payment journey.

The talent pipeline

Egypt’s next competitive advantage may not be another technology platform or investment project — it may be skilled people who are ready to work.

B.TECH’s fourth graduating class from its Applied Technology School offers an interesting example of how private-sector investment can connect education directly to employment.

The school has now prepared 311 students, with 293 earning international accreditation. More importantly, 76% of graduates joined B.TECH, while the rest moved into other retail companies. More than 85% continue their university education alongside work.

The bigger story is not graduation itself. It is the attempt to build a talent pipeline around the actual needs of the retail industry — sales, marketing, customer service, product presentation and logistics.

For Egypt’s labor market, models that connect education, practical training and employment could become increasingly important as companies compete not only for capital and technology, but also for qualified human talent.

القيمة الاقتصادية هنا لا تتعلق بالتعليم وحده، وإنما بربط التعليم بالتوظيف والخبرة العملية، وتحويل المهارة إلى عنصر إنتاج حقيقي داخل الاقتصاد.

Egypt is taking another major step toward banking without branches.

New CBE rules for Digital Financial Identity and eKYC could allow customers to open bank accounts, access financial products, approve terms electronically and update their data digitally.

ببساطة… الذهاب إلى البنك قد يتحول من ضرورة إلى خيار.

لكن الأهم اقتصاديًا أن الهوية الرقمية لا تخدم العميل فقط؛ فهي قد تساعد البنوك على خفض تكلفة الخدمة، والوصول إلى شرائح جديدة، وتوسيع الشمول المالي، بينما تمنح شركات التكنولوجيا المالية أرضية أقوى للنمو.

The next tech talent pipeline may start at school — not university.

Huawei and Fresh International Applied Technology School are launching the first Huawei ICT Academy of its kind within Egypt’s Applied Technology Schools.

AI. Data Science. ICT skills. Internationally recognized certifications.

The message is clear: the future workforce is being trained before graduation.

This could be bigger than a training program. It could become a new bridge between schools, technology companies and Egypt’s digital economy.

$3.9 Billion… and Telecom Egypt just moved up the global investment ladder.

Telecom Egypt is no longer classified as a Small Cap within FTSE Russell Emerging.

It has entered the Mid Cap segment.

Why does that matter?

Because this is about more than size. It puts the company in front of a wider universe of global institutional investors tracking emerging-market indices.

And the timing is important: Telecom Egypt reported 47% growth in H1 net profit, with free cash flow reaching EGP 10 billion.

The bigger story may be what comes next: data, digital infrastructure and data centers could become increasingly important parts of the company’s investment narrative.

$47.3 BILLION… Egyptians abroad are sending more dollars home than ever. 🇪🇬💵

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad jumped to $47.3 billion in FY2025/2026, up nearly 30% from the previous year.

And the flow is still growing.

In June alone, Egyptians abroad sent around $4.2 billion.

Behind this huge number are millions of families, salaries and savings coming back to Egypt — supporting spending and bringing much-needed foreign currency into the country.

The big story? Egyptians abroad are becoming an increasingly important part of Egypt’s dollar economy.

تحويلات المصريين العاملين بالخارج وصلت إلى 47.3 مليار دولار خلال السنة المالية 2025/2026، بزيادة تقارب 30% عن العام السابق.
