Interrelations of logistics performance and trade promotion: a systematic review
Eunice Muraguri, Noleen Pisa
DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.21622/IBL.2025.05.1.1665

Abstract

Logistics activities play a critical role in the supply chain system from the sourcing of raw materials through production up to the final product delivery to the end user. This systematic review sought to establish the propensity to use LPI to measure logistics performance and explore the interrelationships between green transportation, logistics eco-innovations and trade promotion. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta – Analysis (PRISMA) guided the search. Scopus, Web of Science and Science Direct were searched while English peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2025 were considered. The search yielded 21 papers that were considered in the review. Topics covered LPI, green transportation, logistics eco-innovations and trade promotion in developing nations. The results indicated an inclination to use LPI to measure logistics activities though it was marred by some limitations. A positive link between green transportation, logistics eco-innovation and trade promotion was also established. The reviewed papers collectively highlighted the benefits of green transportation and logistics eco-innovations in environmental degradation prevention through CO2 reduction, emission minimization, and pollution reductions. A clear link between green transportation, logistics eco-innovations and trade promotion was also established. However, the review established that research from Africa was scarce, with most of the reviews emanating specifically from China and Asian countries.

DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.21622/IBL.2025.05.1.1423

Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to highlight the significance of green logistics practices in minimizing non-renewable energy usage, with a specific focus on the mediating role of B2B customers' purchasing intentions.

Design/methodology/approach – This study employs qualitative research, starting with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine green logistics practices in reducing non-renewable energy use. Semi-structured interviews with ten Egyptian petroleum logistics experts validate and refine a research framework derived from the SLR. The research is theoretically grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV), framing green logistics as strategic organizational capabilities. Additionally, Institutional Theory is used to understand the role of external pressures shaping B2B purchasing decisions.

Findings – The study identified key green logistics themes, including green purchasing, transportation, and reverse logistics, highlighting Egypt's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through public-private collaborations. Despite progress, challenges like weak infrastructure and low awareness persist. A conceptual framework was developed, showing how green logistics practices influence purchasing intentions and energy reliance reduction, offering insights for policymakers and organizations.

Theoretical Contribution – This study advances the application of the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Institutional Theory within the context of green logistics in emerging markets. By integrating both theories, it offers a deeper understanding of how internal capabilities and external institutional pressures jointly shape sustainable purchasing behavior in B2B settings. The study also contributes to the literature by developing a conceptual framework linking green logistics practices to reduced non-renewable energy dependence through B2B customer engagement.

Practical Contribution – The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers, logistics managers, and stakeholders in the petroleum sector. By identifying critical barriers such as infrastructure limitations and low awareness, the study suggests targeted strategies for promoting green logistics. Moreover, the conceptual framework can serve as a roadmap for organizations aiming to align sustainability goals with customer expectations, thereby supporting Egypt's broader environmental and energy transition objectives.

DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.21622/IBL.2025.05.1.1368

Abstract

The research investigated the influence of logistics preparedness on resilient disaster relief operations in Tanzania. This study involved testing the alternative hypothesis: logistics preparedness has positive significant influence on resilient disaster relief operations in Tanzania. This study is guided by stakeholder theory and resource orchestration theory. Positivism research philosophy was observed with adoption of explanatory research design. Data were collected from humanitarian logistics and disaster relief operations practitioners (unit of enquiry) working in humanitarian organizations (Hos) (unit of analysis), using questionnaire and interviews, collected from 192 respondents. Sample size was calculated using Slovin’s formula and the study employed stratified systematic random sampling. Data analysis included usage of descriptive and multiple linear regression analysis with the aid of SPSS. The findings portray positive relationship between the variables, all the observed variables were significant with R2= 0.75, all with P-values < 0.05 – depicting strong and statistically significant influence of logistics preparedness factors on resilient disaster relief operations, demonstrating that logistics preparedness is very crucial for resilient disaster relief operations. The factors included; sustainable and flexible financial resource allocation -LOP1 ( β=0.312, P=0.003), investment in financial risk management-LOP2 ( β=0.256, P=0.022), capacity building-LOP3( β=0.189, P=0.011), deployment of skilled personnel ( LOP4) ( β=276, P=0.002), physical resource maintenance-LOP5 ( β=0.224, P=0.035)and sustainable practices-LOP6 ( β=0.198, P=0.005). This study contributes to the theoretical discourse on humanitarian logistics and resilient disaster relief operations. Humanitarian organizations and policy makers need to strengthen relief operations structures and prioritize initiatives aiming to enhance logistics preparedness. This study calls for structured humanitarian logistics plan and strategic direction and adds to the body of knowledge and theory on stakeholder engagement and resource pooling is essential in disaster relief operations. Further research involving integration of political instability, climate change, and global economic conditions, will contribute valuable insights to academia, policymakers, and practitioners.
