‘It doesn’t matter where you are from, where you live, or what you consider to be your ‘home’ or roots. At the end of the day, we all connect through stories and songs of love, loss, and the struggle of being human’. - Sevine Abi Aad.
Created by Yanis Josephine and Sevine Abi Aad, Sev & The City is more than a vlog or a documentary. The series aims at showcasing the best of Barcelona's music and arts scene through the subjective eye of a fellow musician - Sevine.
A firm believer in cultural crossroads that lead to some of the deepest and most meaningful human and artistic encounters, Sevine is discovering the city’s music scene and melting pot in her own personal way. As an artist and a story teller, she draws her inspiration from personal encounters with musicians, artists and individuals who share a love of music, life and truth.
True to Aymée Hamon and Yanis Josephine’s aesthetic, the visual identity of Sev & The City keeps the music and the craft in the foreground. Aymée Hamon’s artistic sensitivity and understanding of the art of making music make sure the lens captures the essence of these encounters.
About Sevine
Hailing from Beirut, Lebanon, Sevine sings in French, Arabic, English, Spanish and Portuguese - a diversity in both culture and repertoire, which has allowed her to spread her talent across London, Berlin, Barcelona, New York, Dubai and Beirut among others.
Growing up abroad and frequent travel has helped shape the essence of Sevine’s musical path over the years, forging collaborations and partnerships with renowned institutions and musicians. She was a resident vocalist at the Jazz at Lincoln Center (Doha) over the course of 2 seasons, regularly sharing the spotlight with the likes of Dominick Farinacci, Richard Johnson, Gregory Generet, Jerry Weldon, Ulysses Owens and Takeshi Ohbayashi among others. During that residency, Sevine also collaborated with members of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO), which has led her to become lead vocalist of Emoción, a tango inspired crossover group founded by members of the QPO.
Shortly after her Doha residency, Sevine recorded her debut album - 'Je Grandis', in close partnership with vocalist, composer and producer Mike Massy. 'Je Grandis' garnered the attention of the press, media and music blogs both in Europe and the Middle East, especially following the release of her single ‘Ana Mech Fenneneh’ (‘I am not a bimbo’).
Sevine’s early career days were always infused with notable experiences and projects. Besides frequent residencies at the Music Hall Beirut, she collaborated with Lebanese composer and producer Jean Marie Riachi, lending her vocals to his oriental orchestration of Nina Simone’s My Baby Just Cares For me (featured on his album ‘Belaaks’ - 2009).
