Heads on the Grass Sculptures! 😍

A few years ago, at one of the roundabouts on the road that connects "Arroyo de la Miel" with "Benalmadena Pueblo" the town hall placed some large bronze sculptures.

They represented three hollow heads that evoked images of classical Greek culture. The idea and the location were attractive, but the strong visual impact they produced on drivers (heads being torn off) led to the occasional collision, albeit without major accidents! 😊

The municipal authorities then decided to change the location and move them to Paloma Park, where they currently rest! 🗿🗿🗿

The creator of the work, the Malaga-born sculptor José Seguirí, once confessed that the original idea was to place his work on the western pier of "Puerto Marina" as if it had just been recovered from the seabed. Incidentally, the name of the sculpture he gave them is somewhat poetic:

A few months later, it was due to an old book on medieval Spanish poetry: Arabic, Christian, and Jewish. In one of its pages dedicated to the poet Al-Mutádid, who was king of the Taifa kingdom of Seville, as well as a poet, it is known that, after each battle, they had the cruel custom of decapitating the heads of their enemies, mounting them on spears carried by the soldiers, and parading them through the villages on their way back to their palace. And then, placing them at the gardens, they would plant the macabre trophies, to which they dedicated their best verses! 😱

It is well known that cutting off the heads of enemies is a custom, unfortunately, well rooted in the history of humanity, with the blessing of all the gods, and their corresponding religions and priests, and in all eras, including the present one.

"Fritura Malagueña" 😍

It is made from those fresh fish the fisherman brings from the sea on a daily basis. Some small and medium-sized fish could be usually represented like anchovies, marinades, etc. Also it could contain larger pieces of chopped fish such as squid or similar fishes! 🐟🦑🐙

A very popular and simple dish served in many restaurants and bars in Benalmadena My Happy Town! 🤗

BMHT TIP: highly recommended to have it combined with some fresh mixed salad and a bit of Ali Oli mayonnaise. Marinate it with some chilled white wine like Verdejo! And, definitely a lot better somewhere on the beach! ☀️🏖️😋

Tivoli World! 😍

It was opened on May 20th, 1972 by a Danish man named, Ben Olsen who used the name of the emblematic Copenhagen amusement park Tivoli Gardens!

🎠🎠🎠 🍀🍀🍀💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼🎡🎡🎡

In 2004 the park was acquired by the businessman Rafael Gómez Sánchez and in 2007 it was bought by the Tremón Real Estate Group.

In 2012 it celebrated its 40th anniversary, recording more than 30 million visits to its facilities.

In 2020 it entered into bankruptcy, with debts to Social Security and the Tax Agency of more than 8 million euros.

It closed due to the added problems of the economic crisis derived from the Covid-19 pandemic.

And it will hopefully reopen its doors in 2028, as Tremón and the Benalmadena town hall, have reached a great agreement, where the park will include a commercial center area and a lovely hotel! 🤗

The Stupa of Enlightenment 😍

It is a Buddhist temple and it was inaugurated in 2003. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the West. Stupas are usually closed monoliths but the one in Benalmadena my Happy Town is one of the few exceptions in the world, as it incorporates a meditation room in its internal structure! 🛐😊

From its steps you will witness stunning views towards the coast!

It is a very popular and lovely spot, also known as "Dove Park", "Pidgeon Park", or "Paloma Park", is a public urban park located in Benalmadena My Happy Town! ☀️🌿🪻🦓🌵🍄

Known for its beautifully landscaped gardens, tranquil lake, and diverse fauna, the park is one of the most popular green spaces on the Costa del Sol, offering recreational and educational opportunities for both locals and tourists! 🤗

"XVIII Feria de Plantas de Colección 2025" 😍

Parque de la Paloma is the main green urban area of the town and one of the favourite parks of the entire 'Costa del Sol' due to its space and its facilities. There is more than 100,000 m2 of green space available, where you can find perfectly lit and marked out areas for walking, a man-made lake, two modern children's playgrounds, paths, animals and catering areas.

Among others, it houses a collection of palm trees with more than 90 species, bamboo, aquatic plants and one of the best open-air collections of Cactus and other Succulents in Europe, the latter, with an area of 6,000m2. And it is precisely in this environment where this XVII Collector’s Plant Fair, organized by the town hall of Benalmadena will take place.

The aim of this fair is to promote little known plants which have enormous interest for our gardening and, of course, for collectors and lovers of the vegetable kingdom. In addition to enhancing the relationships between plant lovers and followers, whether professionals, collectors or amateurs.

This year’s fair will be on the following days: 18, 19 and 20 of April 2025.

"Iglesia Santo Domingo de Guzmán" 😍

It is the oldest church in the municipality of Benalmadena My Happy Town! ☺️

It is a Catholic church with polychrome woodwork in its interior. The building has undergone several expansions and renovations, the most recent of which took place in 1998.
