We’d been here for about 5 years before we even heard about this place… 🏰

Batería de Castillitos, near Cartagena, is tucked away at the top of Cabo Tiñoso and is definitely one to add to your list if you like a bit of history, exploring and incredible views.

The battery was built between 1933 and 1936 as part of the defences protecting Cartagena’s naval base. It was armed with two enormous Vickers guns (which are still there) capable of firing shells weighing almost 900kg up to around 35km. The guns were positioned to work alongside the battery at Las Cenizas to protect the naval base from attack.

You can wander around the old fortifications and take in some seriously impressive views along the coastline from around 250 metres above sea level.

It is a little tricky to find, so make sure you put Batería de Castillitos into Google Maps rather than relying on finding it by chance! I'll put the link in the comments.

There’s free parking close to the battery, and then you can have a wander around and explore.

A few snaps from a wander around the Cuevas del Rodeo in Rojales 📸

We’ve been here before, but there's always something new to see.

There are colourful doors and walls, sculptures, mosaics, artwork and quite a few cats who clearly have made the caves their home🐈

There are two places to get a drink during late morning-early afternoon, and an art market with live music every first Sunday of the month.

A few of my favourites photos from this visit ❤️

Have you discovered this viewpoint in Santa Pola? 👀🌊

The Faro de Santa Pola has an incredible viewpoint overlooking the Mediterranean, with views stretching towards Tabarca Island

There's free parking by the lighthouse and it's just a short walk to reach the viewpoint.

If you fancy a longer walk, there are trails around the surrounding coastline to explore, as well as Civil War bunkers.

⛱️ Not sure how much longer these will be here but today we paid €18 for 2 very comfy sunbeds and an umbrella on El Pinet beach (near La Marina).

There's a Chiringuito which will bring you drinks and snacks, though we took our own which is allowed.

Loads of free parking and a restaurant on the beach which must be good as it was full of Spanish 😆

The beach is nice and the water is clear, shallow and seaweed & rock free.

Cheaper sunbeds than Guardamar and La Mata (€25 there I think) so worth a look if you're having beach days while it's still hot!

Flamingo spotting on the Costa Blanca 🦩💗

The salt lakes in Calpe are one of the best places to see flamingos, and believe us - we've been to a lot of places locally trying to get close up 😆

There’s parking nearby, so you can take a walk along the path beside the lake. The mountain backdrop makes it such a great spot for a spotting flamingos and taking some great photos too.

Definitely one to add to your Costa Blanca list if you love nature and wildlife. 🦩

Have you seen the flamingos here before?

🌴🌵 A little oasis in the heart of Elche.

If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to escape to, the Huerto del Cura Botanical Garden in Elche is well worth a visit.

You can wander through beautiful exotic plants, palm trees and cacti, with plenty of quiet corners to stop and take it all in. 🌺

There’s a small entrance fee, but it’s well worth it for such a tranquil and beautiful spot in the middle of the city.

Have you discovered this hidden gem yet?
