Dearest Friends & Moteliers,

Our minds pirouette between the past and what lays ahead, suerte y amor para el nuevo año 2024! Two years writing the memoir! As one year blends with another we find ourselves on the final stretch ~ Hallelujah!
The chapters are richer ~ ever ramping up in pace, drama & action. As a result the writing has taken longer than we initially hoped.

Just like the creation & delivery of its subject matter ~ writing THE MOTEL: High Times In 90’s Ibiza, has been an around-the-clock funny, sad, stimulating, exhausting & at times maddening endeavour.

Recent chapters included stories built on extensive research, fact checking & interviews with the inmates and intimate circle of Manumission and the Motel.

This book is intended to be an entertaining yet truthful time capsule honestly reflecting on the lives and adventures of a nonconformist tribe. In the hope that if it is picked up 200 years from now it might be viewed as an anthropological study. A guide to an alternative way of life. God knows how repressed people will be in the future or what more freedoms will be taken away!?

The finale sees Howard Marks, & .welsh & Monkey Mafia, entangle with the massive from entertainers to , music industry darlings & fresh faced DJs as the sweat drips off the low slung ceiling of the pink p***y strip joint, the rooftop shantytown swells into existence & secrets and stimulants are shared in the graffiti stained corridors. Some fall in love over the wheels of steel. The rest of us fall into a psychedelic black spot…

It was a whirlwind week at 'Mission HQ' with the mighty Family & Friends pre-launch of the book - interspersed with Xmas, NYE & Mike's birthday shenanigans - up here in the mountains.

We leapt over my personal halfway goal with a stunning last minute super pledge at ten to midnight!!! We are thus already 54% funded and we haven't even gone out to the general public yet. Bravo, a huge thank you to each and every one of you.

New York Times best selling author & The Manumission Motel Murder Mystery.

A huge thank you for everything you've done for 'The Motel' - link in bio if you haven't yet ordered your limited edition ;) Your response and support has been wonderful 💕✨💕 heart warming stuff.

Already 32% funded and it's not even gone public yet.

Riffling through the archive today we came across the first published work of a current New York Times and Sunday Times best selling author - on a Manumission flyer 👀 and thought it quite apt to share!

During the mayhem that was the summer of 98, the hot summer when we opened the Motel, I insisted on writing the stories that were printed in 'The Daily Bugle' on the back of the weekly flyers - sequentially as the weeks passed in 'real' time - as a kind of fantasy diary of life in The Manumission Motel. Name checking Dj's and characters as part of the story.

As time wore on, we fell deeper into a narcotic haze - so immersed were we in the fantasy we had created - we started to believe what was written on the flyers.

A male guest would go missing each week, ingested in a highly implausible murder mystery by 'female catkillers out for kicks any way they come'.

But one week when I failed to meet my deadline someone else was contracted to write the text.

That someone was the boyfriend of Andrea, the office manager, he was a Manumission ticket seller and also an aspiring author - his name... Matt Haig.

Matt did his best to imitate my style but perhaps unaware of the story thread I'd been weaving wrote about the murder of the engaged couple in room 10 (- that was us!) being bumped off by the assailant on the flyer who just happened to be my sister.

I broke down in anguish, an argument ensued. My ears rang as Mike drove at high speed across the island to the house on the cliff top then swiftly disappeared over the huge electric gate. I'm not sure exactly what happened but it involved Mike breaking his wrist punching the wall (and the contractor) in front of a bewildered Matt Haig who was politely asked not to write any more flyers.

Reading it back today - the first time in almost 25 years ago, I was in tears again - but this time of laughter 💕 Apologies & thanks xx
