The Drishti
In ashtanga tradition, every pose has a prescribed drishti — a gaze point. The tip of the nose. The thumb. The navel. The horizon.
It sounds like a small thing. But try holding your gaze steady while your body finds balance, and you'll discover that the eyes are the restless centre of the mind. Where the gaze goes, attention follows. Where attention goes, the nervous system organises itself.
The drishti is not just a focus point. It is, quietly, a practice in not being swept away.
Everything you need to know about meditation is in that single still point.
