Vita Detestabilis will close its doors permanently at the end of July.

Since the end of last year, we have been fighting against our health, economy, and bureaucracy to try all possible means to keep Vita Detestabilis alive. Unfortunately, our status has been affecting and conditioning the label’s work and, above all, the efforts of those who have tried to collaborate with VD in the last months. That was a bridge we would have never wanted to cross, and a point of no return for us.

All our remaining stock will be at 50% of its price from today until the 31st of July. Our selling license expires at the end of July, so from August 1st, you will only find the streaming of our releases on our Bandcamp shop. Of course, ALL pending orders will be shipped, and we will still communicate with all of you until there are none left.

We had a dream and were fortunate enough to live it for a while. We have been super lucky to get to know and work with amazing individuals, and we were able to put some of our favorite albums and ideas in a physical format. That is priceless, and we will never forget the help and support that many of you have provided.

Thank you so much for everything, and keep antifascism alive!

Not a Vita related band, but surely a recommendation!!

Blackened/melodic death metal with lyrics about the systematic medical violence intersex people go through. More bands with these thematic, please 💙

Human Abyss - 'Death Obsessed' (Full album, 2024) | Blackened/melodic death

Listen here -> https://youtu.be/Ov9DDbW0FLk

Today we have a lot to cut through with the most recent addition to the channel: Berlin-based Human Abyss, and its newest album 'Death Obsessed'.

Although this quintet only goes back to 2020, it is almost entirely formed by experienced musicians who have played in bands like Spawn (death metal) or currently active No On Spoke (symphonic metal), among many other black metal acts. That gathered understanding of the several genres definitely shows on their musical output: a strong death metal base, with cutting edges black metal moments, and a subtle, at times, main conductor: melody.

Now, thematically, these lyrics hit you as hard as Gggolddd's 'This Shame Should Not Be Mine', Lingua Ignota's 'Caligula', or Ocean Of Ghost's 'I Am Awake And My Body Is On Fire'. What they all have in common is the systematic gender-based violence that rules our fu**ed up patriarchal society. In Human Abyss' case, exposing the abuse and horrors (personally experienced by the band's singer) an intersex person has to go through since they are newborn.

The widespread - and purposeful - ignorance about intersex people, leaves them helpless against a system that has them subjected as an anomaly and forces them to undergo continuous irreversible, and non-consensual mutilations, from very young, and highly invasive processes based on a "phallometer" so they can ensure a "normatively sexed body" that fits the binary scale. Those who are chosen by the doctors as females are 'legally' r*ped for years with different d***o sizes so they can be penetrable in the future. Fu***ng hard to digest, and this isn't the most exhaustive (nor extensive) summary of the most subtle type of violence they go through, which we know comes hand to hand with its explicit, daily, on your face, side.

Horror themes are most often found in death metal, although with a more edgy or macho-stinking POV, and so Human Abyss has effectively incorporated the terror, pain, and the whole circle of abuse intersex people go through, into the genre. With quite a clear inspiration from Swedish death metal, swinging from melody towards the old school sound, and incorporating very epic black metal passages. Bands like Cast The Stone or The Black Dahlia Murder might come to mind when hearing the 'dialoguesque' growls and shrieks displayed throughout the album. "Cut" has a third vocal addition by singer Britta Görtz, who was also in charge of the album's production doing an impeccable job that shows quite an improvement when listening to the previous releases.

A tough but very enjoyable record from what isn't just another death/blackened-death metal band, neither musically nor as for their message. Let their art serve as a catalyst for reflection, awareness, and action. Go, play 'Death Obsessed', and f**k gender very much!

Today is ‘Sudra’ day! The split between IRAVU & MUMUKSU is now OUT!
https://vitadetestabilisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sudra

Available digitally through the bands & on cassette through Fiadh Productions (US) and Vita Detestabilis Records (EU, UK+).

‘Sudra’ brings together two Malaysia-based projects to raise awareness of the plight of racial injustice experienced by minorities in their home country. It displays Iravu’s progressive black metal and Mumuksu’s drone funeral doom, individually on the first two songs, and with a co-written self-titled track “Sudra”. And, it dresses the painting of the artist RAKODAMA.

“This album stands as an undying anchor for ANYBODY who has been a victim of discrimination and fascist oppression – be it of a physical or psychological nature of violent intent. If you are such a person who has experienced this, then know that: We feel and share in your pain, you are not alone. You must remain rooted in the unwavering strength of the boundless spirit of who you are. Rest assured that despite their grand displays of haughty might, THEY will never win. Because they operate from a source of fear. Any action that is born out of fear is doomed to its own self-destruction and disintegration.

F**k authority and f**k primitive belief systems of control. ” Iravu & Mumuksu

"55 minutes of quality rewarding material, with its two foundational styles of black and complementing each other well" by Wonderbox Metal

OUT TOMORROW!!

Mumuksu/Iravu are both solo acts from Malaysia. The latter plays black metal, and the former doom. I thoroughly enjoyed Iravu’s debut album from last year – A Fate Worse Than Home & #821…

"Morvigor embodies expressive black metal, their elongated missives are propelled forward with an energy that makes their unorthodox approach feel visceral and vital. Mixing clean, harsh vocals, abrasive sounds, and softer, ambient passages, the band invites us to join them on a journey that willingly strays off the common path."

It is no mistake that here in ABMN we hold Malaysia's Iravu in very high esteem, both as an artist and as a comrade, so of course we were excited to premiere their new release, and that excitement was doubled when those of us also into the doom side of things heard that this was a collaboration with the monolithic monster that is Mumuksu. Then make that tripled when we found out about the premise of this release.

To quote a part of the statement accompanying this collaboration, "The original inspiration for this album was born out of both artists’ common observation and acknowledgement of the plight of racial injustice experienced by minorities within their home country of Malaysia. This was the starting platform that ignited the conception of ‘Sudra’ - the lowest of the 4 Hindu caste system sub-classes also referred to as the slave class. Upon further introspection and discussion, it became apparent that to defend & highlight the rights of only a single group of persons denotes a hypocrisy that is no better than those responsible for the injustices themselves. Any cause or belief system that only favors a single sub-group of people or community may (intentionally or unintentionally) become a reductive one, forgetting the needs of all while taking into account our collective experiences as humans on this Earth. And such a view can never encompass the totalistic truth of our unity and integration as human beings."

By the way, you should also visit their respective Bandcamp pages and read the rest too, as the whole thing is worth reading, it is both important and eloquent.

Now as for the music part, let's just say all hopes and expectations will be surpassed. Both bands are at their top form, with Iravu at their darkest (but still beautiful) and Mumuksu creating a haven of dirge that would make Corrupted and Moss tear up with pride.

And then of course to top it off we have the collaborative title track that is simply mesmerising, in a tectonic plate moving below you manner.

Do not ignore this, and help out Food Not Bombs KL in the process (as if anyone needed more incentive). Are we biased? Yes. Yes, we are, but one listens and we guarantee, there is no intelligent person on this planet that would blame us. This is a masterpiece, and for once, in these tormented genres, made by people we are proud to call our own.
