For the first episode of ‘Behind the Scenes’, our editor-in-chief Robbie Whitehead () caught up with longtime Apartamento magazine contributing editor Michael Bullock (). During a bike ride through New York City, they discussed Michael’s nearly two decades of contributions to the magazine, the lasting relationships he’s built with creatives like Kembra Pfahler (), TABBOO! (), and Victor Barragán () as a result, and what makes Apartamento magazine the ‘National Geographic of interiors’.

In the spirit of our Muller Van Severen () book ‘A Lot of Work’, we marked a decade and a half of practice from the Belgian design studio with our monograph, our ‘Silhouettes’ candleholder series, and the ‘A Lot of Work’ hats—alongside our exhibition ‘Silhouettes: Celebrating 15 Years’.

‘When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear’.

All the signs pointed to him living forever, but alas, earlier this month the great Duane Michals passed away at the age of 94. Issue #29 of Apartamento magazine brought us into Duane’s New York home in Gramercy Park, the home of a man who left an indelible mark on contemporary photography. That same shoot, featuring photography by Quentin De Briey (), also brought us to filmmaker Waylon Bone (), who has since gone on to direct many short films for us. In honour of his passing, Waylon compiled a few of the many unforgettable moments from his time spent with Duane.
