🚨 When Speeding Becomes a Crime in Spain

Most people know you can get fined for speeding… but fewer realise that in Spain, driving too fast can actually be a criminal offence.

Here’s the quick breakdown 👇

⚠️ Administrative Offences (Fines + Points)

These are handled by the DGT:

€100 fine – 0 points
€300 fine – 2 points
€400 fine – 4 points
€500 fine – 6 points
€600 fine – 6 points (very serious)

The higher the fine, the more points you lose.

🚨 When It Becomes a Crime

Under Article 379 of the Penal Code, speeding becomes a criminal offence when you exceed:

+60 km/h over the limit in town, or
+80 km/h over the limit outside town

Examples:

120 zone → 200 km/h or more
50 zone → 110 km/h or more

At this point it’s no longer a multa, it’s a court case.

⚖️ Criminal Penalties

If caught at criminal speeds, the court may impose:

- Up to 6 months in prison, or
- 31–90 days community service, and
- Licence suspension for 1–4 years

🚗 What to Keep in Mind

A little over the limit = a fine.
A lot over the limit = points.
Way over the limit = a criminal record.

Spain takes extreme speeding very seriously... and now you know exactly where the line is.

December 14th December with Classic Carclub Costa Blanca. At Oasis Lagoon Park, starts 11am, everyone is welcome.

December 21st December, the last meet in 2025 with CB Cruisers. At the Gasexpress Catral, starts 10:30am, everyone welcome .
