Some places just change you 🇪🇸

Spain Undiscovered
Tucked into the northern coast of Spain, along the Bay of Biscay, this city has more stars per square meter than nearly anywhere else on Earth. But what truly makes it the top foodie destination isn’t just the fine dining — it’s the culture of food that runs deep in everyday life.

From the legendary Arzak and Akelarre to the intimate counter of Bar Néstor in the Old Town, San Sebastián offers a spectrum of flavors, techniques, and experiences. It’s one of the few places where you can casually wander into a tiny bar and taste something that rivals a five-star meal.

At the heart of the food scene are pintxos — the Basque version of tapas. These small, imaginative bites line the counters of nearly every bar, and locals hop from one place to another, sampling a glass of txakoli (local sparkling white ) and a perfectly crafted pintxo at each stop. Think seared foie gras with apple compote, or grilled with smoked paprika — all made to perfection.

And then there’s the city’s respect for seasonal, local ingredients. Whether it’s seafood fresh from the Bay or produce from the nearby mountains, everything is treated with care and elevated with Basque precision.

In , food isn’t just part of the trip — it is the trip. This city has turned eating into an art form, making it the ultimate pilgrimage for lovers around the world.

New Legal Ruling on Illegal Occupations in Spain: Is This the End for ?

In a significant legal shift, the Barcelona Provincial Court has made a landmark ruling regarding the illegal occupation of properties, commonly known as "okupas." The court determined that property owners who disconnect essential utilities—such as water, electricity, or gas—on occupied properties will no longer be committing a criminal offense of coercion. This decision aims to standardize legal responses to property occupations across the region.

Key Points of the Ruling

Historically, property owners faced the risk of criminal charges for cutting off utility services to illegally occupied properties. However, the recent ruling clarifies that such actions no longer fall under coercion, regardless of whether the property was vacant before the occupation. The court also ruled that complaints concerning illegal occupations cannot be dismissed until the identities of the individuals involved are established. Law enforcement agencies are now obligated to identify the occupants before any case can be closed.

The ruling does not address the issue of expedited evictions. In contrast, the Provincial Court had previously authorized immediate police evictions without judicial approval if the occupation had occurred within the past 24 hours. However, the Barcelona court’s decision focuses solely on the legality of cutting off utilities and the procedural handling of occupation complaints.

Potential Impact on Landlords in and the Costa Tropical

While the ruling currently applies only to the province of Barcelona, it may influence legal interpretations in other regions, including Granada and the Costa Tropical. Here are the key implications for landlords:

Legal Precedent: The decision may encourage other provincial courts to adopt a similar approach, potentially allowing property owners to disconnect utilities without facing criminal charges.

Changes in Management: might begin to adjust their strategies for dealing with illegal occupations, knowing that certain actions, such as cutting off utilities, may no longer result in legal consequences.

Consulting Legal Experts: owners are advised to seek legal counsel before taking action, as interpretations can vary across regions, and unauthorized actions may still lead to legal repercussions.

Strengthening Preventive Measures: Landlords should enhance property security and conduct regular inspections to prevent illegal occupations from occurring in the first place.

Conclusion

The Barcelona Provincial Court’s recent ruling marks a significant shift in the legal landscape surrounding illegal property occupations, granting property owners more control in managing such situations. While this ruling is limited to Barcelona, it could set a precedent for other regions, such as Granada and the Costa Tropical. Landlords in these areas should remain vigilant about ongoing legal developments and seek professional guidance to navigate the evolving landscape effectively.

Not all those who wander are lost… some are just in Spain 🌿

̃a

Bilbao is often overshadowed by Spain's more famous cities, but it's quietly one of the country's most incredible destinations. Nestled in the heart of the Basque Country, Bilbao is a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern innovation. The city is best known for the world-renowned Guggenheim Museum, a stunning piece of architecture that transformed the city's global image and helped reignite its cultural scene. But there's so much more.

Walking through Bilbao’s Casco Viejo (Old Town), you can experience the city's deep-rooted history through cobblestone streets, charming squares, and unique Basque architecture. The vibrant Ría de Bilbao riverfront has been completely revitalized, adding a modern flair without losing the city's historic essence. Bilbao’s culinary scene is also unmatched — whether it's traditional Basque pintxos (small tapas-style dishes) or Michelin-starred restaurants, the food here is as much an art form as the city itself.

Bilbao might not be the loudest city in Spain, but its cultural richness, stunning landscapes, and mix of old and new make it one of the most quietly epic places you can visit. It’s a city that surprises at every corner, offering a unique experience that's hard to match.

Why Now is the Perfect Time to Invest in Costa Almería 🌿

Almería is undergoing a transformation like never before. With the Mediterranean Corridor High-Speed Train Line expanding at record speed, the region is set to become one of Spain's most well-connected and promising investment destinations. For those looking to invest in property, Costa Almería presents an unprecedented opportunity.

High-Speed Rail Revolution: A Game-Changer for Property Investors
The AVE High-Speed Train "Mediterranean Corridor" is receiving massive investments from the European Union and the Spanish government, totaling over €7.2 billion since 2018. The Almería-Murcia high-speed rail segment alone has secured €1.28 billion in 2024, ensuring rapid progress towards its completion.

Once finalized, this corridor will provide seamless high-speed connections between Costa Almería, Madrid, Barcelona, and the rest of Europe. A key milestone is the new Vera train station, set to open in 2026, offering residents and visitors unparalleled connectivity to Spain's extensive AVE network. This infrastructure boost will significantly increase property values, attract businesses, and enhance the region's overall economic appeal.

Cultural and Sporting Investments: Enhancing Quality of Life
Beyond transportation, Almería is receiving over €13 million in funding from the Diputación Provincial to strengthen its cultural, sporting, and municipal infrastructure. These investments include:

Enhancements to sports facilities across the province

Road improvements in fourteen municipalities

Support for the Almería International Film Festival

Promotion of healthy living and major sporting events

For investors, this commitment to cultural and sports development makes Costa Almería an attractive location for tourism-based rental properties and lifestyle-focused real estate.

Tourism Boom: Almería's Rising Popularity in Europe
Almería is rapidly becoming a favorite among European travelers. Recent showcases at Madrid’s International Tourism Fair (FITUR) highlighted the region's unique attractions, such as the breathtaking Pulpí Geode—a massive crystal cave now nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status. Visitors are increasingly drawn to Almería’s diverse offerings, including:

Stunning beaches and Europe’s only desert

World-class hiking, cycling, and golf opportunities

Exclusive cultural landmarks and film heritage

In addition, new charter flight routes from the UK, Belgium, Luxembourg, Iceland, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary are bringing a steady influx of international visitors. This growth in tourism creates high demand for short-term rental properties, making real estate investment in Almería highly lucrative.

A Smart Investment for the Future
With major infrastructure upgrades, cultural and sporting investments, and a booming tourism sector, Costa Almería is poised for significant economic growth. Whether you're looking for a holiday home, a rental investment, or a long-term real estate opportunity, now is the time to act.

Almería is not just Spain's hidden gem anymore—it is fast becoming one of the most dynamic and promising regions for investment. Don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of this incredible transformation!

New DANA storm alert

The weather agencies are predicting the possibility of heavy rainfall and a possible DANA (gota fria) from this Wednesday 13 November, in the northern Alicante province.

This area is on the edge of an orange warning area and it is predicted that heavy rainfall will occur in the areas of Calpe, Javea and Denia.

Whilst the predicted rains are much lower than those which devastated Valencia in the last week or so, we should be vigilant and check weather updates, whilst avoiding low lying flood plains, which may be affected by very rapidly occuring flash flooding.
