Alicante has suspended new licenses for tourist apartments, including entire buildings, to control their growth and protect local housing

The Alicante City Council has decided to extend the current moratorium on the granting of licenses for tourist-use housing (VUT), now also including entire blocks of tourist apartments.

This was announced on Thursday by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Rocío Gómez, who explained that the measure aims to control the proliferation of this type of accommodation, ensure access to housing, and protect the city’s residents and commercial fabric.

The extension of the moratorium will mean the suspension of the processing and granting of new licenses, responsible declarations, and any other type of urban planning authorization related to VUTs—both individual homes and entire buildings.

The issuance of guarantee certificates and urban compatibility reports for these uses throughout the entire municipal area will also be halted.
